BMW Classic Brand Management response regarding "E10"

Here you go, people, Andreas Harz response to my query regarding whether BMW refers to the 2002 as "E10."

Short answer: BMW does not, and neither should you...

Both designations - E10 and 114 - are correct in a way though E10 must be a retroactively assigned designation. However we never use it in the BMW Classic or the BMW Group Archives, instead we call the type 2002 and if we mean the whole series we call it the "Null-Zweier". That's quick and clear, no need to complicate things. Even in official documents the other designations are very seldom used and since it leads to confusion easily, we just don't use it.

We hope this information is helpful for you.

Yours sincerely,

Andreas Harz

(Thanks to David Toy for the suggestion)

Thank you, thank you, thank you! ? ?

Now that’s why I forgive you for being Mr. Smartypants! ? You have earned your keep, young man!

I would, however, prefer a thread title like “E10? Stop that Sh*t!” Or better yet, “E10 My A**!” Uh-oh, am I getting banned? Will I have to self-quarantine? Hope so!

Best regards,

Steven ?

It's pretty clear that we shouldn't use either E10 or 114 but

This should be sticky.

I vote we cover it in honey and put it at the top of our computer screens.

Well done, Ray.

and if you're a real bavarian (and you ignore the fact that there have been cars with less than 2 litres displacement)  is not a nullzweier but mostly a zweizweier  (or a zwoazwoarer) ignoring the thousands in the number...

Same for e3 or e9

The 1st anything e was in 1972 e12 from BMW

Take a look here on realoem and it will make sense

You trust RealOEM?  I don’t.  The e3 was indeed the first ‘e’ series introduced in August of 1968, the e9 in Dec 1968.
