Recommended Posts

So if you happen to be in Arlington VA on Friday Nov 1 2019 ( mid day ish).

I’m going to be attempting to install a later model pedal box and brake booster in a 1968 1600. Something I have never done before.

if you feel like stopping in - please do. If you know how to do this and can give pointers even better.

I’m even considering a live stream on instagram or Facebook if you want to just check it out.

Or if you want to call in phone lines will be open.

pm for directions

Best

Dion

It's not a big job to mount the box especially when the car is stripped the only problem I see is thats the heater box in your picture and it won't fit in the pedal box area, JK?. Use some body dum-dum to seal it with and Bob's yur uncle.

If everybody in the room is thinking the same thing, then someone is not thinking.

I added a newer pedal box and brake booster from a 2002 to my 68 1600 about 10 years ago.  Are you planning on keeping the mechanical clutch linkage?  My memory is a little fuzzy but I seem to remember that I had to modify the box in order to use the mechanical linkage.  Also the 1600 booster only provided assist to the front brakes, with the 2002 booster you will have assist to front and rear so the balance may be off if you don’t change the rear brake cylinders.  I used an IE set up in front which is similar to the 320i (brembo aluminum), 320i rear drums and 320i master cylinder.  Since then I added a 5 speed so I installed an unmodified 2002 box and hydraulic clutch linkage.

No, I’m switching to a 5 speed - another near future project

Nevada paint looks spectacular.

Thank you - not sure exactly what the name of the color is....I walked into the paint shop and there was a Porsche 356 painted in this color / with a red interior - and it looked amazing.

I’m very happy with it.

If that was a 356B or C, that's definitely a grey, not Nevada, which has a lot of brown in it.  I checked my Porsche sales brochure collection and found a color chart for Bs and Cs. The Porsche color is called Slate Gray; I remember the color well--and it did come with a red interior.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
