Installed a new catch can.  I used my home-made coffee mug catch can for years while tuning the carb/adjusting timing to keep the fumes out of my nose. Found a small can at Walmart ($22) and mounted it on the firewall. Still able to see the flywheel hole, unscrew the can to check for contents, and easily remove the stock air cleaner without unfastening a hose clamp.

After a 75-mile high-speed drive yesterday, I was anxious to see how much oil/goop collected in the can. Disappointed to find only a few drops of water condensation. Yes, the new catch can has an internal baffle, coalescing filter, and I threw in a small ball of stainless-steel pot scrubber just for good measure.

Intake on can is connected to valve cover with a 19/32" (15mm) PCV hose. Output connected to stock air cleaner with a vacuum line connected to the center manifold vacuum spigot below the car The vacuum line is also "T"s to the charcoal canister.

Got a link to the can?  I'm currently using an e30 power steering reservoir...

Dave.

I took the car to the painter.  Found an experienced painter who works out of his house doing hot rods and muscle cars, and he had done a couple hot rod trucks for a buddy.

I had the weirdest feeling: it was like sending the kids to school for the first time or dropping them off at college.  I had a melancholy feeling like I hope I did everything I was supposed to do...and I hope it comes out OK.

you never cease to amaze me with the things you come up with to keep your car running/functioning. AND to take a 46 year old car on such a long road trip...?

we make the yearly pilgrimage up to Monterey for Legends, luckily (knock on wood-like product) nobody has needed a flatbed yet

Had a few friends stop by to borrow a few tools and a jack, followed by a dinner strategy planning session for Legends 2023

Left me stranded a couple blocks from home. Luckley Son and tow strap were home.

I think not getting fuel for some reason AFR reads 20's plus.

Its hot out and hot engine will take a look later tonight or tomorrow .

Fuel was fine ended up being  a bad Condenser,  and I had a spare one. 🙂

Dave,

Go to Walmart.com and search for oil catch cans. You get about 25 pages!!

I just happen to see a Labor Day Special on a Ryan Racing can with the features I wanted...for $21.88. Didn't realize the extent of offerings by Walmart. I would have been overwhelmed by the many choices and probably undecided today if I hadn't seen the ad.

John

Got some goodies from ITG and @BLUNT

One of their fancy new spark plug/wire loom setups.

As much as I love running open stacks, it's time for some filters for the DCOEs.  I cringe every time I drive close enough to the water to see beach sand blowing across the road...
