I finally tackled a project that I’ve been dredding- replacing the driver’s side door hinges. The car was hit and the nose/fender/hood/door were replaced. The old hinges were misaligned and wallowed out. The new hinges are just tacked in, but after knocking the pins out and getting them dialed in I now have a door that opens smoothly.

After staring at the fresh paint in the engine bay for hours it’s just not right. There’s too much red in it. I’ll take the trunk lid to the paint store and see about getting a better match. Little swatches looked good in the beginning, but now that it’s on a larger area it just isn’t cutting it. It’s pretty, but just not correct.

Sorry to hear about the color match. I don't think I've seen two Baikal cars look alike. How does anyone know what it's supposed to look like?

I’m just going off of paint on the underside of the trunk lid and other. It doesn’t look half bad in the pics I take, but in person regardless of light source it’s purple... not a steelie blue as in other spots.

Oh well. Gives me an excuse to buy a new spray gun and get more practice. I have 2 other ‘02s to paint at some point.

Since the last time I posted I’ve been busy. Doing way to many side jobs and not enough work of my own projects! Picked up a pretty clean 318is to do a m42 motor swap and 5 speed. Also finished all the body work on my 1600. Went with Audi ls9r two stage. Got a little carried away with the blue toner but it looks awesome in the sun. Finished building the motor tonight. Waiting on motor mounts and painting the engine bay. Whoever had it before decided to under it. That was fun cleaning up. Also shot two elk. Freezer is full! Excited to get the motor in and running. Hoping it’s enough fun power.... if not I guess it’s turbo time!!!

Completed the ‘destinkifying’ of my trunk. Replaced the sleeve on the the fuel pick up (yes, my old one had a crack running along it) and swapped out the incorrect filler neck that I had installed for a number of years. I got sent the wrong part by a supplier a few years ago and needed to fit it anyway, so encouraged it to fit. I never got around to replacing it until now.

I also added a non retun valve to the fuel line because I was in there.

Thanks to @halboyles for being my parts coordinator, including the pick up sleeve part.
