Heat shield in engine bay

Perhaps I was too hasty in removing the heat shield clips then.  My original foam was crumbly and I saw they weren't available to purchase any more.

I was originally just going to use the EZ-cool stuff instead, but I did a lot of reading on the diy lizard skin paint (micro balloons in latex paint) and will probably go that route.  The plus is that I can get latex color matched to inka and spray the firewall with it and/or spray the firewall from inside the car.  Worst case scenario is that I cover it up in EZ-cool if it doesn't work.

Not sure I like that reproduction all that much.

.....and a little bird told me that there is a state-side reproduction that will be available in 2-3 weeks.  Full closed-cell urethane, Fire retardant, etc.  Much better than the original even.  I saw the first pre-production test pictures and was very impressed.

More info please?

But what do I know

Here is a picture of 51481836651 installed.  It consists of just the brownish foam part to the right of the shiny aluminum shield material.  Again, this is unique to 75/76 because of that aforementioned aluminum heat shield.

Do 74's have this aluminum heat shield or just the brownish foam?

I think only the '75 & '76 had the aluminum heat shield. This was to deal with the high heat coming from the Thermal Reactors on all  '75's and the California '76.

+1

And my 49-state ‘76 does not have that extra aluminum heat shield, because it does not have a thermal reactor.

Regards,

Steve

CORRECTED 3 POSTS BELOW:  My 49-state ‘76 does have that extra aluminum heat shield.

You’re right, Tom!  I was wrong.  I had to go back to the photos.
