  1. I think most of the trashed and beyond repair PHH are for sale on my eBay feed for big bucks ?
  2. Definitely badass. How is it driving now?
  3. 5mm is enough. Rebuild kits for Weber downdraft carbs should be available locally. It won’t hurt to change that needle valve but your problem is present when the engine is switched off, the fuel pump has stopped and pressure in the fuel line will be steady or falling. The percolation of fuel, as Toby has hinted at is due to it expanding more under heat than old fashioned blends. The phenolic spacer will help this but you could also tweak your float height a millimetre or two lower to reduce the spill over level in the carb somewhat. Watch out that you don’t create another problem with your tune though.
  4. 74+ would be ‘good enough’. Definitely better than starting from scratch in terms of the problems to be solved. Even if that means working it out to use a 6 fuse board.
  5. Is your manifold still heated? Could that be an issue with your fuel puddling? I know it’s no solace but we are all rooting for you!
  6. Your springs are a little weak (hence the early and greater advance) but that’s probably OK as long as you are not getting any pinging at high rpm under load. It is definitely advancing and that’s a good thing.
  7. Would the Sniper technically use vacuum advance to control ignition? Surely it would determine engine load from other criteria than MAP?
  8. Try Rogerstii or Walloth and Nesch (though the shipping on that from Germany might preclude it)
  9. Ha! I thought that you were going to describe the heater in your race car then.
  10. A tip I saw the other day for painting wheels with the tyres in place was to let the air out of the tyre and then slide playing cards between the rim and the tyre. You insert the short side and the go around the diameter inserting them with a 50% coverage of the next one.
  11. Sounds strange. We need some pictures. I suspect the answer is a replacement lock cylinder. At least you don’t need to replace more than one key when you change the lock.
  12. Well, that looks a lot tidier. I love little fixes like that.
  13. I think @BarneyT should share his restoration tips as I have lost count of how many car he has transformed. Too busy I expect!
  14. Ahh I wish I could make this. We are leaving Münich today. My wife goes on to Salzburg by train while I travel to the UK for a Batchelor party/ Stag as my best friend is getting married in early July (another reason we are in Europe). I have lots of photos that I will share when I get chance and WiFi. We had a fantastic trip and I am now in love with BMW motorbikes (as well as the cars). We are seriously in love with Munich and had such a fun few days.
  15. Not unless you or your neighbors enjoy radio or television? when you say ‘resistor-less’ wires, are you talking sold copper core wire or do you just mean ordinary carbon plug wires which are inherently resistors? A decent set of modern plug wires used with resistor-less plugs and even a rotor will be fine.
  16. That’s nice welding Tom. Particularly on the ‘pre-loved’ steel of that down pipe.
  17. Ouch. Sorry for (someone’s) loss.
  18. Interesting. Pretty sure mine didn’t have a gasket there and when I reassembled it with a new diaphragm and pushrod I just relied on the diaphragm to act as its own gasket (plus it looked like that was the plan all along. I wonder if it varies by age? My carb is actually a Bresol made by licence from Weber in the Spanish factory that Weber now use full time.
  19. I drove this in 2010 (part of my honeymoon) in a ‘reasonably priced car’. It was slightly spoiled for me by my darling wife telling me to slow down all the time.
  20. You can get them new but hold your nose when you buy.
  21. Just be cautious of any recommendations from the LHD gang in case you are stuck running the standard RHD master cylinder. Differences in cylinder volume / stroke may bring a different outcome. If you are cooking up a master cylinder as well the (I am assuming that you are getting all of this signed off by an engineer) then I would be going down the Tilton pedal box and no booster route.
  22. Someone on here a few years back replaced theirs with a large server rack fan. I think it was Okay. You would need to upgrade your wiring and speed resistors but no reason why that wouldn’t work well.
  23. This is the usual reason for the diode as it is easy to ‘power on’ the MSD through a back feed. I used the diode included with my ignition between the tacho adapter and the Ignition box (mine is a Summit Racing knock off) and the 123. While both the ignition and the 123 are probably designed to cope with the flyback voltages likely to be seen from the tacho adapter, I thought that they might both be more reliable if they were spared the pulses by blocking them with the diode. Don’t think this is related to your issue unless the tacho adapter is interfering with your instruments. This is not necessarily impossible but would be only likely where there were other wiring deficiencies (most likely a ground problem which you know you don’t have). If everything is working properly then you wouldn’t get any more interference from that than you would your own Kettering ignition.
