  1. Indeed Steve, my 1600-2 is approximately 5-and-a-half to 6 months into 02 production. I knew I should have found myself an earlier car...
  2. Both are hugely cool - the first of course because it's a tii, and the second because these were the first press photos BMW did of the 2000. That of course makes it a '66 car, and that in turn means the car has the unique-to-66 centrally placed " 2 - 0 - 0 - 0 " badge on the rear bootlid. Very cool...
  3. Always nice to have some one to nerd with Steve... And yes, those early seats look so bloody awesome! It's a real problem for me. My VIN 1504010 just won't suffice anymore. Not just do I dream of adding a 1600ti to my garage, but I now also need a pre-1500439 BMW 1600-2 - just because of those seats!
  4. Very cool! I could very well be interested in a set? 1) How much for a set? 2) Are you willing to send to the UK?
  5. Unreal...!!! Just plain unreal.... Granada is such a great tone of red - very 60's. And a 1600ti is definitely my all-time dream-02. What I wouldn't give... Amazing collection Rey!
  6. What a beauty! Fairly rare colour for the 02's but looks lovely...
  7. Time to resurrect this thread again, as some rather exciting news has been added to The '66 Bible. I barely believe it myself, but two more cars have just been added to The '66 Registry. As if that piece of info isn't interesting enough in it's own right, the two cars added are actually the two earliest 02's known to The '66 Registry!! Yup, VIN 1500086 and VIN 1500439 have just come out of the woodwork. So that's the 86th and the 439th 02 ever to leave BMW. I must confess, I'm totally OD'ing on this, it's just that awesome... Along with that, we've also found that both these very early cars have a very different pattern to the front seat backrests. A pattern that I have never before seen on any 02! The 822nd car produced still retains its factory seats, and they are the same as all the other VIN 150XXXX cars known to The '66 Registry. So this is really very exciting - at least for a geek like myself... Anyway, if this kind of nerdiness is your thing, then go have a look for yourself: http://www.02forum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=8603 Oh and while you're there, should any of you guys have any further info on the whereabouts of some of those North American-based VIN 150XXXX cars such as 1500512, 1503025, 1505686, 1506913, 1507937 or 1508304, I would needless to say really appreciate the opportunity to update The '66 Registry with some fresh intel...
  8. @esty, we live and learn a little every day.... @bluebmw, it would appear that you still have the correct clips on your '67. Take good care of them...
  9. Esty, those clips which you link to are the normal 02 waistline clips. I need the early ones which are round instead of oblong. The profile on the back of those first waistline trim was different, and they won't attach when I use the later oblong clips. These round clips were only used for approx. the first 2 years of 1600-2 production - possibly even less than 2 years. They've been NLA forever!! I'm guessing I'll have to be lucky and find some secondhand ones from someones parts stash...
  10. @TG2k2, I could of course be wrong - it sadly happens on a very regular basis... But I don't think that's the same part. It seems that it's been NLA for donkeys years! @tjones02, Tom that would be amazing!! Please do have a look for me - I would really appreciate it. I've managed to somehow get hold of a NOS waistline trim for the nose of my '66, and they're unique to the '66 MY only. Needless to say, I'm pretty damned excited about it, but now need to get 6 of these early clips before I can fit the nose trim to my 1600-2... @whs.de, Wolfgang, I'll just wait and see whether Tom can fish a little gold out of his garage. If not, I'll definitely take you up on that offer - thx!
  11. Quite the 1st world problem... Both are fabulous in my opinion, but push comes to shove I reckon I would stick with those Ruspa's. Rare and oh so cool!
  12. Quite the longshot this one... While I don't know the exact cut-off date, I'll guesstimate that the first 2 years of 02 production ('66 and '67) used waistline trim with a different profile on the back, and hence used a different type of plastic clips to retain the waistline trim on the bodywork. I sadly don't have a parts number for these plastic clips, but only a fairly poor pic. As you can see they are round rather than the oblong plastic clips used on later 02's. I'm in need of at least 6 of these old-style plastic clips for my '66. Can anyone help me? Please either PM me or write me directly on andersbilidt (a) hot mail dot com
  13. Noooooo.....!!! I've only been looking for a secondhand short rear bumper for well.... EVER! And then they go and spray this one red. Arggghh.....
  14. Hi Luis, Cool sticker - I could very well be intersted in two of them. Could you send them to the UK, and how much would that cost me? Also, how do I best go about paying you seeing as I don't have paypal...
  15. Wolfgang, I absolutely love your 2002...!! Looks very purposeful... My 2002 which I use for Historic Hillclimbs is still a narrow body, so perhaps doesn't look quite as badass, but this is my contribution to this thread none the less... An Agave green '72 BMW 2002 built up as a 2002ti replica and then of course tuned further. The current engine has JE forged pistons, Gapless piston rings, 300 degree BMW Motorsport cam, stainless steel valves, Schrick valve springs, a pair of 45mm Weber DCOE's, double throttle linkage from Merlin motorsport, Luminition ignition system, oil cooler and probably a few other small goodies which I have forgotten. Power is transmitted through a 5-speed CR dogleg box and a 25% LSD with 1:3,64 gearing. There are tii front struts, Koni shocks all round and the current (really shite) Jamex springs will soon be swapped for a set of Eiback springs which are on the shelf and ready. On the inside a set of very sexy period Recaro buckets hold me in place - think they are called Recaro 1300 Rally, but not totally sure. However they were used in period in all the late 60's racing 911's, racing 2002's and the first racing E9's, so they're ridiculously sought after nowadays and probably worth more than the rest of the car combined... For looks I've tried to go with a theme along the lines of "early-70's-Italien-gentleman-clubracer-who-doesn't-drive-an-Alfa". So there's a set of rare Italien produced L.O.W. alloys, Carello spotlights, Italien-market front indicators and a Vitaloni Sebring door mirror. Hopefully I'll add a "stacked-MoMo" steering wheel and perhaps a complete Ansa or Abarth exhaust to that at some point in the future...
  16. I don't get it... You've got some seriously cool period grill badges there, and then people get all excited about the IE badge?? Don't get me wrong, it's a nice badge and all, but really? REALLY...?? I love the round badge from '66 with the 3-spoke steering wheel. I too have a fair few period grill badges, but they're all currently in my lock-up back in Denmark. Once I get them over here to the UK, I'll try to remember to find this thread again, and add them to it...
  17. Yup, a lot of time and effort went into getting them perfect, getting a good diversity of early & late 02's, saloons, tourings, targas and vollcabs... Then of course ensuring that all the colours were correct for the year of 02 they were applied to. It was quite time consuming to say the least, but Ray did an excellent job on it!
  18. Nope, the 2002 cutaway on the Haynes manual was done by Terry Hayes. The 02 was also RHD, and in my opinion not quite as well done as this example done by Niedermeier.
  19. I too really appriciate the Ronal R10 alloys for their cool turbine like design. However, to my eyes at least, they just don't suit the 02. On an E30 maybe? The Ronals have that 80's era feel to them. But not on a 02 please.
  20. Could we get these printer in a decent poster size? Or has that already been done?
  21. Oh what the hell... I'm in for one too! I'll ask one of my mates whether he wants one too - I'll get back to you on that...
  22. Now I do not want to be the guy turning gospel into fact!! So please understand that I have no carved-in-stone proof of the following... But I'm quite convinced that the 5x13J FPS alloy wheel was first used by BMW at the introduction of the touring. BMW was very keen to ensure that the touring was not perceived as an estate. They wanted a much more sporty image for their new touring. Therefore the touring was initially introduced as a 2000tii touring in Colorado gelb and with the full factory installed "Sport Paket". This "Sport Paket" comprised of the 5-speed CR dogleg gearbox, a 25% LSD, Recaro Ideal S front seats in black vinyl with white piping, three-spoke leather steering wheel, spot lights fitted through the front grill, satin black sills and the small lip at the bottom of the front panel equally painted satin black. And to finish it all off nicely, the touring sat on the 5x13J FPS alloys. Hence why the alloys are often referred to as the "Sport Paket" alloys. For the record, the "Sport Paket" was never available for the regular 02 saloon, however you could of course opt for the same factory options as individual items for the saloon. Anyway, this was the touring which was first introduced to the world at the Brussels Autosalon in January 1971. When the touring actually officially entered production in April 1971 it was both as a 1600, 2000 and 2000tii. Some months later we got the 1800 touring too. But going through all the factory 02 brochures (of which I believe I only lack the rare "Schwarz Edition" brochure from '75 in my collection), the factory accessories brochures and not least all the period road tests I have in German as well as British, Danish, Swedish and American magazines, I can not find a single picture or even reference to the FPS "Sport Paket" alloys prior to the introduction of the 2000tii touring. So we recap, we probably saw the FPS alloys first in January 1971, and had the option of ordering them for our 02's from April 1971.
