  1. Regardless what's going on, there is at least one Bristol '66 which looks like it's destiny as a scrap car has been sealed. Poor '66 indeed...
  2. No you are of course right Steve. While the solid panel over the heater plenum is '66 only, the triangular holes in the rear bulkhead is '66 & '67. But if we are indeed looking at a VIN swap, then who knows what year the 'new' shell is?? It could even have started life as a SRL... Also, if someone has gone to the effort of swapping a VIN number, then it would arguably not be terribly difficult to also weld on the solid panel at the back of the engine bay. Swapping the rear bulkhead would require a fair bit of extra work...
  3. Thx for you replies Gents! Appreciate it... @Mike, I like your SNOP acronym. Never heard that one before... The alloys are L.O.W. alloys produced in period in Italy. Besides not being centre-lock and obviously of smaller dimensions, they look virtually identical to Campagnolo Miura alloys! As for keeping the Green Devil in Denmark ~ vs ~ bringing it to the UK.... It's a tough call! Needless to say, I'll get much more milage out of the ol' girl if I keep it in the same country as I live in. That would no doubt be a huge bonus! But I just feel quite strongly for the Munkebjerg Hillclimb in Denmark. Maybe @yeewiz is right - just one last Munkebjerg in Denmark next summer, and then bring her to the UK...??
  4. Pardon my absence! But here's my input for what ever it's worth... The early 1600-2's did indeed have the this type of remote servo. I sadly haven't got a precise cut-off for when they became optional, but I would have been sometime around July I think. So this particular 1600-2 could indeed have been ordered with the servo from new. I believe it was around early '67 when the booster became standard issue. And yes Steve, all the 6V cars had the low battery tray. As several others here have already noted, this has all the signs of a VIN swap. David, if you don't want to be caught poking around for welds near the VIN, then read my The '66 Bible thoroughly instead. There are several easy ways to identify whether the restored shell is a real and true '66 shell. The most obvious is the solid panel over the heater plenum leading to a two-catch hood latch rather than the later three-catch system. There's also the two triangular holes in the rear bulkhead between the cabin and the boot.
  5. And here's a brake down of the colours that the Turbos were delivered in: CHAMONIX (white) - 1049 POLARIS (silver metallic) - 615 TAIGA (green metallic) - 1 SCHWARZ (black) - 1 TAMPICO (beige) - 1 INKA (orange) - 1 PASTELLBLAU (blue) - 1 JADEGRÜN (green) - 1 VERONA (red) - 1 Missing registrations - 1 Total - 1672
  6. No problem... For anyone interested, here's the full brake down on where the Turbos went when new: Germany - 624 Italy - 356 France - 180 Japan - 117 Switzerland - 110 England - 68 Sweden - 63 Belgium an& Austria each - 29 The Netherlands - 18 Iran - 9 Gran Canaria - 6 Denmark & Norway each - 5 Angola - 4 Columbia & Spain each - 3 Andorra, Finland, Jugoslavia & Luxembourg each - 2 Guatemala, Morocco, Panama, Poland, Hungary & USA each - 1 Experimental & test cars - 7 Company cars - 5 Car pool, press department & sales to employees each - 3 Missing registrations - 8 Total - 1672
  7. I've sadly heard similar stories about Oldenzaal from other 02 enthusiasts here in Europe - though to be honest, I haven't got any experience with them myself...
  8. Thoroughly stunning build!! I know it's been a long process, but a huge congrats for getting this far...
  9. Gents, just wanted to share with you - my Green Devil lives to race in anger yet another day! http://www.viaretro.co.uk/2017/10/all-lubed-up-again/
  10. Cool pics! Thx for sharing... Of the 1672 produced Turbo's, there were 117 which were sent to Japan when new. There were only more Turbo's in Germany, Italy and France from new, so you guys got a fair share. Of the four that rocked up at your 02 drive, two of them appear to be imported later in life. Bizarrely, all the Turbo's that went to Japan when new, had the Turbo flares blended in with the bodywork. Two of the four have just that, while the other two have the rubber seals and rivets present like Turbo's for the rest of the world.
  11. I spent 7 months in Adelaide back in 2012. Sadly didn't get the opportunity to take part in the Bay to Birdwood run as I had to leave Aus again about a month before it took place. But at least I did visit the National Motor Museum while I was there, and had loads of great drives up in the hills along Norton Summit Road, Gorge Road and the like. An early morning blast to Hahndorf for coffee become a favourite Sunday morning ritual of mine. I even ended up driving The Great Ocean Road up to Melbourne and back, which was an epic trip! Simeon, you really kick-started some old memories there....
  12. Hi Simeon, It's a 2-liter block with a set of forged JE pistons in there. But they're flat top, so they are next on my list of further upgrades, as I'm sure a higher compression ratio can be achieved with grand piano pistons. There's an E12 head with an authentic BMW Motorsport 300 degree cam and double valve springs from Schrick. She breathes through a set of proper old Italian 45mm Weber DCOE carbs, while there's some old 4-branch manifold at the other end and a 2" Simons exhaust system. A complete Luminition system keeps everything firing right, and then a few other niceties such as an oil cooler and not least a terribly fancy throttle linkage from Merlin Motorsport. It's easy to opt for outright power, but as she is now, she's actually very drivable pulling clean with good torque from quite low revs, but obviously really coming alive above 4000rpm. My next little project will be swapping the 25% LSD from the current 3.64 diff and into a 4.11 diff. That ought to give her a bit more GO-GO....
  13. Ouuuu.... what a sweetheart! Love the early cars - so simple and unadorned. For the sake of fitting new floors, I really hope someone saves this one... Still, if it must be crushed, then I would like to join the queue for the rear bumper! Also, if the rim of the steering wheel is not too far gone - as in worn all smooth and shiny, and starting to disintegrate - then I might very well be interested in that too. That is of course, if you could be bothered sending stuff to Europe??
  14. Apologies in advance, but no pics for this one... But had my Green Devil on a rolling road session. We never got around to it last spring when we made a few upgrades to the engine, but it ran quite nice anyway, even if it was obvious that it was adjusted a bit on the rich side. But now it's finally been adjusted, re-adjusted, re-adjusted again, and then re-adjusted a bit more during the session. Pulls strong and clean all the way up with good torque and a decent 156hp at the top end.
  15. Thx Scott! Glad you enjoyed the article. I hope some of you guys might check in every so often. We're obviously hoping to get ViaRETRO out there to as many enthusiasts as possible, and hopefully with time make it a much more active site, with plenty of comments and interaction on the various articles we publish. But things like that take time of course... In the meantime we're always very keen on some feedback! What are we doing right - but more importantly, what can we do better?
  16. Sadly Andrew, I have to agree with that sentiment. I have seen a few display cases over the years which actually looked really good, but then I spotted the price and realised that for the price of that display case, I could probably just about buy the 1:1 classic car which I was intending on displaying a model of!! And yes, anything affordable, has just proven cheap and nasty. It's left me seriously considering just making my own display cases out of some beautiful slabs of dark wood, with a glass frame cut and assembled to sit on top of this wood. Can't be that bloody difficult?? Famous last words...
  17. Love the garage Andrew! Very cool - or at least, I'm sure it will be... And once all your funds have been sunk into finishing that project, you now know where to start looking for your dream 1:43 models to store in those stunning facilities.
  18. Naaah... no such thing. Blue 02 seats have always been all blue - regardless of whether they were all vinyl or a cloth/vinyl combo.
  19. Ed, one could of course argue, that with a 1:1 already in your dream garage, you hardly need a 1:18 or a 1:43 for that matter. Still, my logic tells me you should really have the trio...
  20. HaHaHa... you've cunningly planted a seed...
  21. Steve, should you have any duplicates which I'm missing, I would certainly be very interested! To the best of my knowledge, the only European brochure missing in my collection is the leaflet for the Schwarz Edition. Oh, and Baur also released their own brochure on the 2002 Targa, which I don't have, but this isn't strictly speaking a BMW brochure. I do have the two Targa brochures (one RRL and one SRL) which were official BMW items. However, I have no doubt that I'm missing several US brochures in my collection...
  22. Thx guys! Ed, I couldn't find another Minichamps version in Granada red, but there's a Baikal blue one in Greece. Not cheap, but possibly worth it nonetheless...?? So much better than the crude and cheap IXO version... http://www.ebay.com/itm/WOW-EXTREMELY-RARE-BMW-2000-CS-Typ120-E8-1967-Mor-Blue-mt-1-43-Minichamps-E9-E24-/232481038556?epid=1640746942&hash=item3620f320dc:g:DXoAAOSwoRBZsftH I take it you are aware that there's a 1:18 version as well, and if memory serves me right, it's even available in Granada.
  23. Whoooooaar....!!! VIN 1505146. That's a new one for me! As I still run The '66 Registry, I would love to learn more about this '66 BMW 1600-2. The donor shell is clearly a '66 car, seeing as the bonnet latch doesn't have a central latch. So could you please clarify, is VIN 1505146 the donor car, or is it the partially restored BMW 1600 in what appears to be Bristol grey and sitting on later slotted steelies? Or even better, are both cars perhaps VIN 150xxxx cars? Please tell me more.... If need be, feel free to email me directly on andersbilidt (a) hotmail dot com I would love more pics too. And do you know who the owner is by any chance?
  24. Hello Gents (and Ladies of course! - just not that many of you in here...), Perhaps dismissible as blatant self-advertisement, and if frowned upon, then feel free to slap me... But just thought I'd share my latest article on our web-based classic car magazine, ViaRETRO. We try to keep the site as varied as possible, so it's rare that I allow myself to write about BMW's in there. But today I've gone all-out on achieving that BMW dream... Enjoy... http://www.viaretro.co.uk/2017/09/achieving-my-dream-garage/
