  1. Excellent!! Thx for your input Gents... I'll definitely drop by the Carrol Shelby Museum one of the days I'm there. That would no doubt be cool. John, I think I'll also write both 02only and Sin City BMW and email to see if either mind me dropping by for a look. Mark, I would have loved to do a casual Cars n' Coffee kinda thing, but it seems I'll miss out with the days I'm in Vegas. Arriving Sunday and leaving Friday doesn't work. Bummer... Steve, being a European I reckon the '68 Mustang convertible is the most appealing. I get to see plenty of 122's and MGA's here already. I guess $250/day isn't too bad and it would no doubt make a great cruiser through Red Rock Canyon. Duly noted - thx for the tip! I'll go try my best to go light on the big V8 then... I did visit Hoover Dam a few years back though, so impressive as it is, I might give that one a pass this time around. For non-car-related stuff, that sounds like a must-do! I basically just love anything which is old and full of character and history. Will definitely make sure to go there! Thx. Argggggghh... you're killing me here!!! Damn, I would have loved to attend that! Sadly though I have to leave on Friday 4th. Seeing as I'm flying the bloody plane, I kinda need to be there, and can't possibly postpone my departure. Damn it!
  2. Ladies & Gents, First I must confess that I haven't been on FAQ for several months now! Apologies, it's just I've been so damned busy with work, family and not least my pet-project http://www.viaretro.com Either way, I need to ask your advice and help... Worklife has me in Vegas from Sunday the 29th April at midday until Friday the 4th May also at midday. Now I know there'll be plenty to see and do in Vegas (it's not my first visit there after all...), but is there anything cool to do with classic cars? - Are there any companies in Vegas where I can rent a classic car for a drive into Red Rock Canyon? - Or are there perhaps any classic car museums in Vegas? - Or am I maybe even so lucky that there's a local classic car meet / Cars n' Coffee / or similar on in Vegas during my stay? - Further than classic cars in general, is there anything 02 in Vegas? Maybe even a local 02-nutter who might find it amusing to meet up with a European 02-nutter for a cold beer and a 02-chat? Hope someone can come up with a few ideas. Thx guys...
  3. A Grand and Happy New Year to All...!! At ViaRETRO we're celebrating the start of 18 with a jumping 02. http://www.viaretro.co.uk/2017/12/visual-sunday-full-flight/ May you all have a fun-filled evening, and a 2018 filled to the brim with joy, laughter and loads of great 02-experiences....
  4. Such a cool little 1600-2. Congrats on your purchase! She looks quite well preserved, so with a bit of love and attention, you'll soon have her looking pretty again. As others have already mentioned, the rear badge pre-dates your car, but those first-year badges are rare and imo look great, so I would keep it. Besides, it would seem that the car has had this badge for the majority of its life now, so arguably its now become part of the cars history - regardless of whether its factory correct or not. Good luck with it all...
  5. "...tend to keep my cars" HaHa, understatement of the year!! A grand CONGRATULATIONS to Ludwig!! Mike, you have me well and truly beat, as my NullZwei will have to wait another 7 months until she can celebrate her 45th birthday. And further to that, she's only been in my possession for 25 years this last October, as I shared in this article here: http://www.viaretro.co.uk/2017/10/silver-anniversary/ On another note: Gordon, I love that early E3 of yours!! So clean - so original. Wish my E3 looked that good...
  6. I think pretty much all that needs to be said about this subject has already been perfectly worded by Delia. Thank you Delia for taking the time to try (sadly, probably in vain...) to right what is wrong. I have had several similar discussions, and have reached the point where I have simply given up. Apparently - with or without proof - people will believe whatever they judge sounds like a cool story. Needless to say at this point, I personally agree with everything Delia has thus far argued in this discussion...
  7. Funny that this topic comes up on FAQ today, as I have literally just posted a crying-call-for-help on our ViaRETRO website, much along these lines. Equally disillusioned with modern cars and the driving experience they deliver - or should I say fail to deliver. http://www.viaretro.co.uk/2017/12/bring-fun-back-into-the-commute/ But what's the solution? I just don't know. Someone help please....
  8. Just wanted to wish you all a happy 1st of December!! Hopefully this little tale will help everyone get into the festive season spirit... http://www.viaretro.co.uk/2017/12/does-santa-drive-a-classic/
  9. You start with a Derby grey garage with Bristol grey garage doors and window frames. Then you park a Derby grey 1600-2 and a Polaris silver 2000tii in front, and you suddenly achieve 02-perfection...
  10. Mike, I still email back and forth with the new owner a fair bit, so I'll try to influence him towards both Vintage and Mid America the best I can...
  11. Thx guys! - all of you. Mike - love the pic from Bavaria Tour. My sweet little AMY and two of my very best mates assembled in one pic - well done! The Derby grey '66 BMW 1600-2 now lives close to Boston. She's with a good owner - that much I know. I hope he'll bring her out every so often, so all of you 02-enthusiasts on the east coast get to enjoy her. She is in my humble opinion - and yes, I do realise that I might be every so slightly biased... - by a fair margin the best, most authentic, unmolested and original early 1600-2 you will find anywhere!
  12. Hello all, Just thought I would share my last farewell letter to my '66 BMW 1600-2 with you. She crossed the Atlantic and now lives in the US, so you guys might see her out and about. If you do, please give her a friendly little tap on the bonnet, and let her know that I still think of her... http://www.viaretro.co.uk/2017/11/goodbye-seems-to-be-the-hardest-word/
  13. I too am a big fan of Agave! - but then I'm biased of course....
  14. Very cool early 1600-2. I just love it when cars like this come out of the woodwork! Glad you plan to keep her original. I thoroughly agree - a classic this old that has managed to remain original for this long, should be permitted to continue so... Best of luck with the resurrection!
  15. What a beauty! As Steve has already noted, the 5-spoke FPS alloys were Italian-market-only dealer options on the 02. Pretty cool. I also spy a pair of Italian front indicators. Very cool with such an early VIN tii...
  16. Yes Steve, my OCD is probably as profound as yours. My dear wife teases me that in my case it should be called "CDO", as I will go bonkers if it's not lined up in alphabetical order... On that note, I have indeed always tried my best to get 5 alloys to form a complete set, but at times it has unfortunately proven impossible. As for that Big Heist of yours, just keep in mind that many of my alloys are still in my lock-up back in Denmark, while some have made their way across the pond to the UK, so you'll be putting a few miles on that truck of yours...
  17. Careful what you wish for Joe! For me too it merely started with a mild interest in period alloys. I started to realise just how many different brands and designs were available, and how much swapping the from one set to another actually changed the overall visual of what was otherwise the same 02. Heh... I've honestly lost count, but I think I've got 28 different sets of period 13" wheels stashed away. Perhaps a tad excessive...
  18. Well not quite Steve, but I could treat my NullZwei to a new set of period rims every second week for a year. I suppose I could then start over again for the next year and keep that going for the next 25 years (or more)... Steve, I actually wrote about the whole "keeper" aspect of my NullZwei ownership within the article. But no, at first I did not consider for how long I would keep my first car. Like you, it just sort of happened. I forgot to sell her, and instead kept driving her and enjoying her...
  19. What a beauty!! Really wish I could... But I'm just too deep into other projects right now, to financially manage this Formel steering wheel at this moment.. However, I've dealt with BimmerBouk before on another steering wheel he was selling, and I have only good things to say about that transaction. The steering wheel was as described - perhaps even a bit better - and postage was both fast, secure and very fairly priced. GLWS...
  20. Dave, I'm utterly lost for words... Obviously the key thing here is that you and your family are still with us. But your emotional loss must still be huge! My deepest condolences for your 2002tii and your Ranchero. Take a while to get your home re-established, and I'm sure you'll eventually find the strength to return to 02-ownership. All the best....
  21. WOW! That's an amazing five "original owners" making themself known in just this one thread. That's pretty amazing! Then there's also @Conserv who I know also still owns a 2002 which he bought from brand new. Well seeing as there's no way I can possibly make up for the 19 first years of my NullZwei's life being spent with three other owners, I will naturally forever be lagging behind you guys. But I've made the most of our 25 years together, and @mike I can assure you that I am indeed going for another 25...
  22. @yeewiz, I just knew someone was going to seriously outdo me here!! So have you owned yours since new? If so, that's pretty damned awesome! Just imagine owning a car for 43 years and having been the only owner for all that time. Well, the thing is, you Sir don't have to imagine that... With my NullZwei now having 318,000 km on her (equating to 197,000 miles), our two 02's have covered almost identical mileage though...
  23. Thx Brandon, Considering the number of enthusiasts I know, who seem to swap out their classic every year or maybe second year if they get really fond of it, I think you've done alright keeping one for nine years. A big thank you to Scott C Aaron for leaving a reply on ViaRETRO!
  24. I do realise that there are a few enthusiasts in here who can easily beat my 25 years spent with the same 02, but nonetheless, I still feel that its worthy of celebration... http://www.viaretro.co.uk/2017/10/silver-anniversary/ Oh and also, may I please encourage leaving a reply on the ViaRETRO site...?? I'd really appreciate it...
  25. Thx for your input Gents! Colour is just factory Agave green. As already mentioned above, the alloys are period aftermarket L.O.W. 5.5 x 13" wheels produced in Italy. I've actually got a second set which I might consider selling if someone where interested... As for where my Green Devil will reside in the future, I suppose I can just leave her in Denmark over the winter where I won't be driving her anyway. That'll give me the cold winter months to sit indoors and contemplate to pro's and con's of having her in one country compared to the other....
