  1. Seriously?? Did you guys truly sit there and watch all 30 minutes of that video?? Reading your posts, it seemed like maybe you guys did. So I attempted to do the same. Think I got about 4 minutes in and I fell asleep. ? Watching some dude drive down a twisty road. Really?? It's kind of like when my kids watch a video of someone else playing a random online game. Sorry, but I just don't get it. I'd want to be the guy either driving the car or playing the online game. Not the guy watching, as that must surely be the very definition of boring. I mean, if it were a 3 - 4 minute video of him driving the car - sure. But 30 minutes?? Anyhow, after being out cold for about 3 hours I just woke up again because I was drooling down my left cheek, so figured I'd add my bit to the thread... ? As for the car, I like it! A lot even! A very cool build. Obviously not OEM, and not even entirely period correct, but he manages to capture a really cool vibe with the bits he has added. Will be interesting to see how the auction goes. The bidding seems to have stalled a little right now, but I suppose it's all going to happen in the final 15 minutes...

  3. Thx! Same can be said about your 318ti though - looks great! ? I must confess though, the 2.5-litre really does transform the little Compact - both on the Autobahn and on the twisties... I guess the M-package doesn't hurt either. Suspension is a bit firmer and the sports seats hold you tight while still being very comfortable. Mine is indeed Montreal Blue as well. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure about the whole Individual thing. I just know it has the Individual sticker in the engine bay. It's probably just the interior??
  4. @Conserv and @saaron It is indeed a fun little car. Of course not quite as analogue as our beloved 02's, but still a fairly light and compact (no pun intended...) car. To me, it's the true successor to the 1971 BMW 2000tii Touring. And yes, with the 2.5-litre straight-6 pushing a stock 170hp to the rear wheels through the E30 rear suspension, smiles per mile are certainly guaranteed... ?

  7. Money no object it would have to be a clean and unspoilered BMW 3.0CSL with the early carb'ed engine. Would no doubt raise the bar somewhat with it sitting next to my two BMW 2002's and my BMW 3.0S Bavaria... ? But if we're keeping it within financial reality, I think I may have added the right BMW to my garage just last December. A fairly rare, European-market-only '98 BMW 323ti Compact with the factory M-package and Individual colours. Was this not the world's first small hatchback sporting a 6-cylinder engine and RWD?? I certainly can't think of an earlier model with these attributes. A fabulous niche market and in my humble opinion the last BMW to deliver a truly analogue driving experience... Oh, and I have a set of freshly restored 17 inch Style 22 "BMW Motorsport" alloys which are about to be fitted...
  8. Gents, I fear I may have entirely misinterpreted the whole concept of this thread, but here goes anyway... Before: A picture of my Green Devil taken back in August 2016 (about 6 years into my ownership). After: Another picture taken of my Green Devil, but this time in June 2018. Uhmmmm... I sense I'm doing something wrong here?? Help please... On a serious note though; great to see so many 02's being caringly resurrected. Very inspiring... ? ?
  9. Ryan, that interior looks great! You've done well in transforming it. If you have a solution for the split seats, then you just need to sort out that centre console. But please, keep the short console rather than popping it a later long one. Back off-topic: Yes, the aviation industry as a whole is bleeding badly right now. To be honest, I'm not entirely convinced that it'll manage to return to what it was prior-Corona. Don't get me wrong, the industry will make a comeback, but just not to what it used to be. But thankfully, I've been really lucky, as I'm a freight dog on the B747. ? After umpteen years of flying passengers around the globe, I made the switch to freight just last November. In hindsight, that's the best decision I've ever made in my life, as it's saved my bacon in this Corona-Apocalypse we've now been thrown into. Freight is largely unaffected - at least for now - so I'm alright. Anywho, I'll give you a heads up prior ro my next layover in LAX. Would be fun to meet up...
  10. Love those Cosmic Mk1's. They look excellent on your 02! My Verona '73 sat on a set of those when I purchased her way back in '92. Annoyingly, I made the stupid mistake of selling a whole lock-up of 02 parts as a one-job-lot, and not realising that my Cosmic's were at the very back of the lock-up. Tried to buy them back later, but no joy...
  11. Great progress Ryan! Keep up the good work... ? Returning to our off-topic discussion: I started with a 1982 Beechcraft Skipper. A small 100hp 2-place little airplane that tops out at 120kts. It was so much fun and the name suited it perfectly; the Skipper. I could fly from orange county to Santa Barbara in about 30 min with no wind. It was perfect. Being that it was a low-wing airplane, it sharpened me up pretty quick. Now I'm in a Piper Arrow with a complex and high performance endorsements. Go revalidate your license! Where are you located? The little Skipper looks neat with its high T-tail. I've never flown one myself though. I started on PA28 Warriors about 20 years ago. Progressed a little since that though as I'm now sat in a Boeing 747. Based out of Luxembourg but literally circumnavigating the world. I Fly into LAX on the odd occasion, and will have a two-day layover in Houston during the weekend after the next. Would love to get back into the small and simple single-eng. prop aircraft again though - they're so de-stressing to bum around in...

  14. This is indeed one of the great mysteries of early 1600-2 production. Sadly, I can't contribute much towards explaining the cutouts... I too have heard the explanation given by @Slavs that the cutouts were made in anticipation of using the little 1600-2's for motorsport and needing to install roll cages. At first I accepted this explanation, but then again, think about it... What was roll cage technology like in the mid-60's? Pretty basic stuff! To the best of my knowledge, they certainly weren't manufacturing massive cages which were connecting to the suspension top mounts too. A simple roll hoop was probably all you got. So as such, this explanation doesn't really hold tight. But why then?? Perhaps @114TYP and @TobyB are on to something with regards to tooling and assembly...?? What I can contribute with is pictures of the rear bulkhead on my old '66 BMW 1600-2 (VIN 1604010). Through ridiculous amounts of research I managed to source the correct plastic with the correct pattern in and then fitted it as it should be from the cabin side of the rear bulkhead. For the record, with this in place I never experienced the slightest issue with exhaust fumes entering the cabin.
  15. Staying off topic... Ryan, what do you fly, if I may ask? I haven't flown a piston-engined aircraft since 2009, but have recently been dreaming about revalidating my license. It's such good fun! But it's just one of those things which I keep postponing. I guess I just struggle to find the motivation when I spend so much of my time in those big, fat jets... As for your engine... It might just be me stubbornly sticking to my oldschool ways, but I can't help but feel that the patinated Colorado paint, the pre-'71 bumpers and a set of sexy 3-piece Alpina alloys all beg for that hot-rod M10 engine you have stashed away. Oh, and may I suggest a set of gurgling 40mm DCOE's to complete the picture? ? Keep up the good work Ryan...

  17. Excellent video of a truly charming little 1600-2... Lisa has certainly understood how to preserve and enjoy the original unadorned simplicity of these fabulous early 02's. Sure does make me miss my old '66 BMW 1600-2 which happened to be Derby too. Wish I had never sold it...
  18. You're almost there - just hold out a little longer... My beloved NullZwei has been caught in the UK. Having moved to Germany, I was meant to fly over and roadtrip my 02 back to mainland Europe in a week from now. But with this whole Corona-lockdown, that's no become Mission Impossible. ? Sun is now shining and I'm left wondering when I'll see my NullZwei again?

  20. Cool project! With a little tlc and some carefully selected parts, it certainly has potential to shine once again... With the tii engine and other alterations, you won’t be bound to keeping it all stock and original - that ship has already left the harbour. Even so, I’m hoping you keep it period-correct and true to form. Will be interesting to follow. Ryan, while I’m hardly super-active on this forum myself, it’s nice to see you back on FAQ. ?
