  4. Hey, so a friend of mine has sold off his auto junk yard after 45 years. he is getting rid of a lot of parts. one guy was there on his third trip and all he is taking is British stuff, don't ask me why. maybe he likes warm beer too. anyway i am rounding up just 2002 stuff and bring it home to the warehouse building. 2002's were some of his best selling stuff back in his hay day. at one point he employed 18 people. now he is lucky if he gets one call a day for any kind of parts. so he gives me a holler and hauls this out and now the only marking on the entire unit. and now a full view. so for all you old timers, does anyone have a guess as to who made this. as for the unit i like it because it really is not wider than a standard console except for the bump outs. i will be opening it up to investigate the guts in the next few days. sorry about the picture orientation. thanks, stone
  5. hi, if you have a vertical bulge that seems to be only above the wheel then the car may have been damaged. if you have what i have called a "hotdog" that starts above the front edge of the wheel opening, and swells out very gradually at the center of the wheel opening and then dissipates toward the rear, and is gone by the point of the wheel opening at the back then you have an undamaged quarter panel. MANY body shops try to flatten this area out but that is not the correct original shape but rather it had a bulge or "hotdog"shape in that specific region. stone
  6. when you say a pair do you need two for one seat or four pieces for two seats? i have them either way, $15 each plus shipping.
  7. Hi, i have done this a few times. with the starter out you can replace the pipe. remove the throttle linkage that bolts to the block and the rest will take time but it is easy labor.replace every hose on the car while doing this. also change out the air bypass hose from the warm up regulator to the under side of the plenum. cleaning and replacing the parts as it goes back together is a good thing to do. start to finish, 8 hrs and lunch break. good luck stone
  8. if the first falls thru i have several to sell. i am in philly. $100 pick up at the shop thanks stone
  9. Hi, for the past two weeks i have been searching for a water leak that really did not show itself. i had just about resolved to take the head off and have it tested. so i statrted the car one more time before i was going to drive it out into the rain we were having and try not to make too much of a mess with the coolant. the car is a customers regular driver and a tii which i had recently swapped in a known good motor for her exploded one. i had the air cleaner out and the motor was running and i saw a hint. the rail where the oil pan bolts to the block on the driver side was now carrying green fluid. What did i touch in the last 30 minutes????? well i tightened hoses and even the "water outlet neck" on the head. i turned the car off and followed a trail upstream to the spot where i could see fluid weeping from the neck. when i put the motor in i replaced every hose and clamp, and checked and cleaned every mating surface for the hoses. this thing looked okay so i reluctantly put on my readers and saw a leak coming from the water neck. so then 20 minutes later and alot of very fast wrenching got me to the part and i had it off. i just barely tested the flange and i had two parts. i do a ton of work on 2002's but i have not seen it all yet. this was a sobering learning experience. now i have to go search the bins for a spare to put on. i just wanted to mention a small victory. i also need to wear those damn glasses more often. thanks for reading stone02

  12. Hey, so i would like to know if anyone has recently order and installed a front windshield. i bought one and i am suspicious of the glass not being even close to the correct curvature. i do know how to install glass, as seen on youtube. i have done maybe forty or more and only broken one in all the years. i even had a VW buddy of mine come and look at it and he talked me out of trying to install after seeing how out of shape it really is. so again, does anyone have any good or bad about dealer glass. thanks, stone
