  2. The afore mentioned http://www.cibieusa.com/ comes to many vintahe car meets across the US, I saw him during the Montery Historic Race weekend http://www.montereyhistoric.com/ http://www.festorics.org/festorics2007/index.shtml @ the Concorso Italiano http://www.concorso.com/ where he had a nice selection of $$$ Ferrari lights allong with new Regular Cibie's in the booth. Then there's some place selling replicas on ebay.... Item number: 250089170810. http://www.rallylights.com is a great source for OE type & Hella electrical accessories and those cool relays with built in fuses.
  3. All these 02's plus one more '76 49 state 2002 I got for free that I'll make ito a safe car right before I sell it. Then our daily drivers too...
  4. Yeah, now you can look on ebay for those euro "smiley" headlights.
  5. This is an awesome piece of living history, but there are some of us out could really use this in a version for the Neue Klasse cars 1500-2000tii. Having easier access to parts info for 1800TI/SA's would be a great help to me especially! My Parent's BMWs '65 1800TI/SA #995183 '70 2800 sed, plans for installing a 3.5l motronic w/L-jet intake are under way '72 2002tii #2760007 COLORADO, ORIGINAL OWNERS!! In the middle of a minor restoration '87 535is 5spd, mom's daily My cousin Matt's BMWs '74 2002tii w/'73 bumpers '80 528i 5spd 3.5l w/ L-jet Other BMW's I work on are in the collection of Pat and Clint deWitt... This car has been through a botched restoration that I am now in control of and when Pat is ready we will see that it is brought back to proper restored condition. My BMWs...
  6. I hate to do this again but that color is Arktisblau met (045) not Atlantic blue (041). Here's a good Atlantic shot...
  7. For the daily grind (from your available choices) I'd use the 14' bottle caps w/ 195/60-14 mainly for the MUCH wider choice of rubber available out there! Personally... I wouldn't go for the bottle caps (to pedestrian these days) with so many other cool wheels still available out there. Still though, (bottle caps or not) for a good daily tire and wheel size you can't go wrong with 14x6 or 6.5 with the 195/60-14's I've fallen in love with the Yokohama AVID H4S and V4S on my daily cars (my "running" 1600-2 has 15x7 et28 BBS/Nardi's w/205/50-15 yoko es100's it is not used on a daily basis). On the 528e I got over 70,000 freeway commute miles before they wore out! They have great feedback (steering and grip) and respectably high cornering limits for such pedestrian rubber! Another option worth considering is a more period looking set of not stock 13" alloys because the Yokohama AVID T4 is still available in the smaller but still viable 185/70-13 size.
  8. The color of the late 02 with front spoiler shown is Jade Grun not Agave.
  9. I've had a SS on my 2.0L 1600-2 for about 6 yrs now backed up with an OE Eberspacher Tii center. Next time I would deffinantly think about the SS center for a little more "more". Just like "Jack" said "It is quiet until "called upon", at which point it has a nice hairy chested tone. Good quality. I'd do it again!" My '66 1600-2 has a NOS early 1600-2 SS center and rear and it has that great "abarth" type sound that I was looking for in that period correct car. Please do yourself a favor and do some SS price shopping with great CCA members John and Barbara Bisset at http://www.perfauto.com/. I've known them since I was 9yrs old at Octoberfest '83 in Colorado Springs. They'll do their best to beat bav autosport's price as they did for me.
  10. I don't really know LA LA land that well, but if Jack Fahuna's shop http://www.probimmer.com/ is in reasonable distance, he is THE one I would trust to perform a pre purchase inspection on a 2002 as well or better than I would. If you do talk to Jack Please tell him I sent you...
  11. When my cousin Matt decided to have me help him convert his '74 tii to '73 US bumpers we decided that since he was going to have his car painted anyway that we should have the body guy/painter modify the nose skin for mounting of the '73 style bumper brackets. He chose '73 brackets so that he would have a little bit of protection, not allot but some. It worked out very well, and looks correct as if it really was a euro car but with '73 US brackets. We borrowed a friends '73 tii to take measurements from for the slots in the front and all other holes including the holes in the front frame rails. The front bumper on pre '74 '02s doesn't line up square with the lower molding but a bit below, where as the rear bumper lines up with the molding. For some good inspiration on fitting the front bumper check out Stella.. http://my2002tii.com/mar2003/marchpart2.htm As for Matt's tii here's the progression... Before Delivering to the Body Guy New Arktis Blau met. paint Finished He took about a year to make his final decision, attending many '02 gatherings, seeing many different variations of bumper conversions. Finally he decided that since he was going to have the car painted anyway that he chose to go the FULL euro look, Italian turnsignals euro headlights, shaved side markers and all, well except for the '73 bumper brackets.
  12. This should help. I've also used small/medium vice-grips in a pinch.
  13. I just bought this one last month. A little pricey for the DIY'er but then again no one's called me a DIY'er for a while now. Ebay Item number: 120050789454 Ebay Store ID ... http://stores.ebay.com/EL-PASO-TOOL_W0QQssPageNameZstrkQ3amefsQ3amesstQQtZkm They have them drop shipped from... http://www.baumtools.com/ Another high $$$ is.. http://www.klanntools.co.uk/ http://www.klann-online.de/englisch/USA_E.htm These usually are in the 1100 to 2k depending on accessories. I did a search on eBay for MacPherson Strut Spring Compressor and came up with many different options. The "clamshell" types are in the DIY'er price range and are relatively safe. Never use an air tool (especially an impact wrench) on threaded type tools. The impact action harms the threads and can AND will eventually strip them, sometimes beyond repair. Even the heat generated by using an air ratchet will damage them threads. The last thing you want is that spring compressor to strip its threads and lock up or worse, come apart. I've seen many broken expensive factory tools and injured mechanics who damaged and used damaged tools! Even in the heat of the battle at work I will always defer to using hand tools on special tools. Woah, sorry for the rant but safety and broken special tools are pet peeves of mine, especially when I happen to be the next person to need to use said tool only to find it damaged beyond use and the coustomer needs their car that night! AARGH!
  14. The short answer is YES. Long answer... Early tii exhaust manifolds have less webbing than the new castings. They were prone to cracking. The tii manifold ha s the same size ports as other '02 manifolds, the difference being that the tii had no exhaust emissions equipment to block the path of escaping air. The '74 2002 exh manifold flows pretty well for that reason. They only have an EGR exit port, not the air inj tubes as most other years do. If you haven't installed it yet I would take a grinder to the ports and match the gasket holes.
  15. I too am planning in a rear fog light install and would love a copy of that wiring diagram too. TIA
  16. I've never actually seen a '76 '02 with a 3.90 diff and speedo, and I've worked on dozens 49 and 50 state cars.
  17. Yes they will fit as long as they are perfectly straight on the inside rim!!! I've had 205/50-15's on 15x7 et28 BBS Nardi's for many years. When straight the rim came within 1 or 2 mm's of the tierod end. Once they were bedded in by the bad roads in the Berkeley area they would hit the tierods wpon vary hard cornering and I ended up installing 1/8" spacers only on the front. The fender lips will have to be rolled front and rear if not already done, and they DO rub the inner fender on full lock.
  18. Sorry, I need the one that covers the Two barrel carburetors of mid '72 and newer. Thanks for the quick reply!
  19. The procedure is to turn the rear subframe mounting bushings upside down by exchanging them left for right the mounting holes are offset to enable this. The reason behind doing this raises the banana shaped rear subframe up into the car by about a half an inch or so. This is done to REMOVE EXCESSIVE CAMBER ON ANY LOWERED '02, it does not add camber! Too much camber is actually a bad thing, excessive tire wear, less tire contact patch while cornering..... "really?"...."yes, really!". Many '02 racers in the past would even make up welded mounts in varying highths to adjust the rear geometry when rules stated they couldn't make the trailing arms adjustable.
  20. Does anyone out there have one to sell or copy for me. Will gladly pay a copy fee. TIA.
