  1. Has a very nice looking stainless system, it's designed as an OE replacement so loud sound shouldn't be an issue. Price sounds steep until you see that the down pipe is also stainless and included. I knew I saw that a OE looking/sounding/fitting stainless exhaust system is currently available. I just had to wake up my '02 brain cells as these new fangled bimmers I work on daily tend to make the old info fade away. : ) http://www.wallothnesch.com
  2. any more. Can you say GROUP PURCHASE?! Borla used to make a really nice stainless 02 system, but last time I checked they no longer listed it in their catalog. My Dad picked up a rear section from FleaBay. It looks stunning (!) shaped like OE but in stainless, hasn't used it yet, he's waiting for a center section to show up somewhere. It would be a great idea to arrange for a group purchase of the Borla system. I would surely be interested! There also used to be a company called Hör that made a similar stainless system. I don't know what happened to them though. Ads can be found in 80's Roundels. Stebro makes a good stainless system but alas, way too loud, even for my taste.
  3. Thomas Morgan Jones 11/15/74 Berkeley CA USA Some say I may have been concieved in my Parent's '72 2002tii (they bought it new in Feb '72 2760007), but if you've ever seen MY mom you'd believe otherwise (5' 10" 200+lbs). : )
  4. I did not know the history, I am truly sorry I brought up a sore subject. The lady whom I had conferred with on the Senior Six message board with presented herself as such, and I assumed that there was no harm in referring to a cool story she relayed over that message board over 10 years ago. Again, I am sorry for touching on a sore subject. Your birth Mother sounds like a fascinating woman! Tom Jones

  6. and I've seen sheet metal screws in there too, OUCH!
  7. What Alpina probably used on the A0/A1 was the Ti/SA part right off the BMW shelf. The 1800Ti/SA came frome the factory with Weber 45 DCOE 15/16's; the only BMW to come with Weber carburetors. Not even the mighty 3.0CSL's did that! Ha, there's one for you trivia buffs!
  8. I second bill.in.mt's notion. Easy outs SUCK on anything hard like this they allways break! Just a question though. Dit the stud snap off flush? Or is there some left sticking out and how much? I've been sucessful (in the car) in soaking it in penetrating oil, using heat from a propane torch and grabbing the stub with vice grips or one of my Koken stud removers to get it out. LOTS of heat! If there's nothing to grab onto you're stuck with drilling DEAD CENTER, starting small and working up to a bit that's just smaller than the threads and then removing the last bit with the thread chaser or tap, chasing the original threads! BTDT! Using a reverse drill bit on these particular studs never works, they're not just broken bolts grabbing nothing, most have a non threaded section that when installed properly digs into the threads and locks in place and or they're rusted in place too! If you're not comfortable drilling while on your back [ ] then you'll have to remove the manifold to mount in a vise. If still not comfortable than take it to a machine shop and have them do it. While they're in there have them replace the other two too, trust me it's worth it! Do not use bolts in place of the studs, they'll back out constantly! Get new studs and new copper lock nuts at the dealer or your favorite vender. Just make sure they're the ones with the non threaded section. They can be installed with the double nut method and red loc-tite (I use the loc-tite as rust prevention for the next time).
  9. We weighed the Family's October of '71 (2760007) Tii on a set of grape scales at a winery in Napa in the early eighties. I was only 6 or 7 but I seem to recall around 2350lbs with oil fuel etc. My Dad would remember the exact amount down to how much gas was in the tank.
  10. Friday's great, anytime is a good time. Wow! I've been thinking (This week no less, cosmic weirdness is afoot) of getting a hold of those very carbs to use the tops for my Dad's Ti/SA. I haven't seen mcmil's setup in person yet but the hard foam idea is intriguing. Pat's car has been running filterless since its restoration, that's OK for the track but I've been driving it on the street to events and such; so I've told her that it's time to put some kind of filter on it. That car is so over the top that I just don't feel right "adapting" something to fit, it's got to be correct. What else I do need though is a copy of the Ti/SA parts fische or book with pictures. My Dad has a parts manual that includes most of the Ti/SA stuff but it's in German and alas has no pictures... Working on Pat's car and the future restoration of Dad's car has presented the need. Maybe the CCA library has something? The factory definitely used SOMETHING on the Ti/SA's but what? On the Jones family cars though, I'll use anything that works well. P.S. Paul, I'll see Pat probably tomorrow and will pass the good word. Say hi to your Mom for me, I used to talk to her on the Senior Six message board a long while back. I still remember her story of when the D-Jet brain got flooded out in the two tone CSI.
  11. I work on two 1800Ti/SA's (my Dad's and Pat deWitt's #'s 995183 and 995184 respectively) and will also be using a '02 TI airbox with DCOE's on my Granada 1600-2 and need to know what adapters are used for this application. I guess what I am looking for is one of the Ti/SA parts manuals with pictures, and or, some kind of Pipercross type of racing parts house that has something like this. If I can't find something off the shelf I'm thinkin' making a hard rubber ring that goes around the velocity stack that I can then clamp the boot to. Has anyone done this? TIA
  12. There's a parts guy at Weatherford BMW that used to for years, in Petaluma CA, did ok but hard to beat the rabbits etc., I think he had a weight penalty for being rear drive. He may still have it for sale or know what happened to it. The car was a dirt tracker since the 70's. I can get pictures. There was a series of articles in the Roundel on building and developing a dirt tracker 2002 years ago.
  13. Ever since I was a little kid I'd imagine passing a Porsche while in a Bus. They beat me to it! The first time I saw it I couldn't stop laughing! http://www.race-taxi.ch/ http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9107885320295623470&q=race+taxi&hl=en
  14. Let's see a picture of the tail, does it have the 1600 badge above the right taillight like most '67's. Also, is that a three piece dash, with the lower half being the '68 and later padded type instead of chrome? My Father and I upgraded my(since '93) Granada '67 to all the Tii susp, brakes, driveline, rear subframe w/ short neck diff, 5spd... 15. rocker trim and black painted rocker panels, no "schutz" either.
  16. http://www.hbspecialists.com/ They still do sell performance parts (some) for 2002's they should still have some 19mm sway bar bushings in stock. H&B still services some of the cars they built long ago and keep things like bushings in stock to service theese cars.
  17. http://www.probimmer.com/index.php JF Pro Independent BMW Service/ Jack Fahuna in Van Nuys is a wonderful BMW shop with 2002 and Tii expertise that far surpasses my own, he'll treat you right. I would trust him to do the same excellent work or better than I would do! Every year he comes up to the http://bayarea02.com/ Swap&Show to peddle his wares. He & I have had many in depth '02 and shop related talks! If you do go to him tell him "Tom Jones" sent ya!
  18. BTDT. Tightning the bolt got me home. Filed the slot the next day and with a new bolt and lock nut it hasn't failed yet in 8 years. The same problem happened to me while out on a date with my now wife Rosee, with that and the many other '02-oholic related issues that she has put up with it's no wonder I married her.
