  1. the correct part #s for the correct ones for your car are. 51 11 1 815 493 for the Left one... 51 11 1 815 494 for the right one I haven't checked with a dealer for P&A but I'd be suprised on their going NLA, maybe just on backorder.
  2. #61 31 2 682 120. Try that before you go any further. Does your headlight switch plug have the individual wires or the harness plug w/ all the wires in it? If individual, and someone has recently changed the switch the cause may be wires on the wrong connectors.
  3. is usually very happy to make sure it's not dented ir bent. Open and inspect in front of them. The dealer also never charges for shipping! their prices are also pretty reasonable, many times I've found the best price comes from the dealer. For you, see John at Weatherford in Berkeley or Glenn at Concord, I've had great expierence with these three. I just don't have any expierence with Sonen in San Rafael or BMW SF or I'd probably recomend them too! Hope to see you early this year so you get a good spot. :-)
  4. Very little, only the slightest hint of orange all over, hardly noticeable. In the door jams, trunk under the hood all the same as on top of the car other than the ocational thin spot in the deep recesses under the hood. I've seen dirt and rough spots under the hood and trunk too. I've seen drips here and there but never any more than a few, and never a fallen wave. The lower parts of the nose and doors also have the same narry a hint of orange as the tops of the hood, trunk, and hood, never more. My dad's tii had a drip near the front roundel on the hood, another few in the door jams and another few elsewhere around the car. 2760007 was also buffed prior to it's purchase as new by my parents in Feb '72 we suspect it was on the floor at the LA auto show in Jan '72 but have not found proof yet. Three or four spots were buffed down thin to near primer, one on the ridge in the center of the hood just above the roundel, and one on the driver side of the hood near the top of the door, and two more I can't quite remember where. Other than those rubbed through spots from having been buffed out it never looked as though it was color sanded/ rubbed/ of buffed out. One could not see any more but the ocational hint of peel on the car. In the cowl there are the painted sound pads, they never had that thick paint look to them and you could see where some primer shown through next to them on the inner edge. Around the vents on the hood also never had a thick paint look to them. With garaged Berkeley area life the paint lasted the better part of 30 years before we decided it was time for new. Other original low mile '02s i've grown up seeing had the same hint of orange and never looked as though they had been buffed out. Hope this helps. I'm glad to finally see the metal flake silver removed from that car, it's been a long time comming. It deserves the best Glasurit you can throw at it. :-)
  5. Tom Jones tii purist rant #1 I'm about to get Mopar or Corvette date coded hose, overspray on the.... yellow paint build marks on the... crazy here so don't read if offended by such filth. JMO! I hate it when an '02 has been restored to the "best" standards available and I can still pick out basic flaws under the hood that can be seen even in those pictures. The radiator overflow hose is supposed to be a thin black walled rubber hose, not what appears to be the 8mm braided clear washer hose. The exact hose is no longer available BUT #17 12 1 712 736 for a 528e etc.I've used it many times, it has the perfect look and fit, even being long enough to extend down below the nose to keep that pesky coolant off the bodywork. The cold start hose is obviously not routed correctly, it should be under the #1 intake runner and be part #13 31 1 469 781 brand Continental Rubber products. This is the # for the proper high pressure 8x13mm fuel hose. The fuel filter is up too high, it should be below the battery tray. All the water hose clamps have the later hex drive heads, the originals have only flat blade screw driver heads. The fuel hose clamps appear to be, regular 8-12mm or 10-16mm water hose clamps not the proper fuel hose clamps, should be flat blade screw heads not phillips like most new ones have. It has regular water hose clamps on the intake runners where it should have special large fuel hose type clamps. The water hose clamps can pinch the plastic and cause a vacuum leak. And again they have flat blade screw heads. The wire harness clips on the valve cover are standard rubber sleeved type not the originals. The clamps on the air intake boot are also of the later hex head type. I've found that Audi 5000s use the correct ones in the fuel tank holding the fuel pump, they're also nicely preserved by the fuel! The "colur" sticker should be above the VIN plate, and the "tyre" pressure sticker should be? Where? The orange Achtung! sticker should be infront of the right shock mount. Other stickers are out of place. The cold start wires should come up from onder the intake. Thw wiper arms are of the polished stainless type where they should be the matt silver ones. The shock mount caps are stained. The radiator is to shiny. Bosch blue coil in a tii, bahh! Chrome oil cap, bahh! etc..... Some one else help me here, there's lots more wrong there but I'm out of time. :-) I grew up with 2002tii 08/71 2760007 as the family car and am now a professional BMW tech. Restorations like this that are claiming to be perfect just irk me. While this is a VERY VERY nice restoration, is status as a benchmark is un justified.
  6. This electric powered 2002 shows up at every Bay Area 02 Swap&Show. Very Cool!
  7. The old 2002 factory repair manual blue binders are now avalible on CD ROM from any BMW Dealer part #01 56 0 004 532 List price $ 99.65 And the parts manual is now a free 1700+ page pdf download from... http://www.2002tii.org/phpmyfaq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=220447&id=62&artlang=en I've also seen 2002 Haynes manuals on eBay, Amazon.com, B&N.com..... or order from your favorite local book store. Amazon BMW 2002 search http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/104-7883277-5812709?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=bmw+2002&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go
  8. JMO, I would never destroy such a rare fine '02. Take/ get a hold of any normal pedestrian beater 2002 and do what you wish, but DON'T DESTROY THAT CAR! Stay out of Hock Keep it Stock! Do you have any docoments verifying the originality of the 5spd, like the original widow sticker, other original dealer paperwork etc.. If so, that would be REALLY cool!
  9. If you'd like to see a top notch BMW race/repair shop and a nice gathering of 30+ BMW_CCA members cars then attend the Valley Motorworks Open House on Saturday. If you're intrested in seeing a LARGE gathering of European cars, everything from exotic Ferraris/Lamborghinis/Porsches/ etc... and BMWs from 840is to 2002s then attend the Euro Sunday. Trust me, if you're a car nut like me you'll love going to both events. Don't feel out of place if your '02 isn't in the greatest shape, just find us other '02 geeks and hang out. Also just ignore the Ferrari snobs themselves and go right ahead and drool on their cars! :-) I'll be driving Pat deWitt's 1800Ti/SA not one of my own cars though, too bad. :-)
  10. I've seen the OEM rear 3 point retractable set in a few cars. I just looked up the List $ at $378 for EACH SIDE!? OMG! #72119055229 x2. Then the new fronts are #72111830695 L & 72111830696 R for $302.25 EACH!?!? OMG AGAIN!! Back in the mid eighties my dad ordered German aftermarket seatbelts from the http://www.quelle.de cataloge (like german Sears but, well, better). But of course they don't have anything like that listed anymore. I would venture to guess that some kind of german auto parts store would be able to get something though. :-) I've also seen the Schroth retractable front belts in Sean Casey's 2002tii. They looked great and as I recal the price was reasonable, especially when compared to the cost of the factory BMW stuff!
  11. http://www.francisscott.com/~bmw2002/gallery/don.htm It is not my site but he did a decent writeup on the swap.

  13. If you look at the parts LIST below C.D.'s picture you'll not see the #6 listed. That's because it's used on a different application (different BMW) than yours. #5 is the flange for your car, yours doesn't use the shield #6!
  14. http://bayarea02.com/ check in the "toolbox" section for LOCAL parts sources including... Double02 Salvage New AND Used Parts http://www.002salvage.com/ German Auto Sport, formerly German Auto Salvage http://www.wolfsport.com/ And of course ANY Dealer like... San Francisco BMW, at Howard and South Van Ness http://www.bmwsf.com/home.htm Or any other Bay Area BMW Dealer... http://www.bayareabmw.com/ The Dealers can still get most any 2002 part. I recommend at least checking the Dealer for Price and Availability P&A before you purchase any part from any other vender, as sometimes with the added cost of shipping or driving to the East Bay, parts become more expensive than downtown at SF BMW. Keep in mind, the Dealer NEVER charges for shipping when you pick items up in store. Also If you join the BMW_CCA you can receive a nice discount on parts and service at many venders and shops local, national and at SF BMW too. http://bmwcca.org/ http://www.ggcbmwcca.org/ Changing that steering coupling is one serious Pain In The A-- PITA! Be shure to mark where the splined shafts go through the flanges to keep the steering box lined up with the steering wheel! The Flange that's on the steering wheel side of the shaft (not the steering box side) must be tightened only while pushing down on the steering wheel (preloading the steering collum). For the complete procedure see the Factory repair manual. The best Manual for this procedure is the original BMW Factory one. Now available on CD, part #01 56 0 004 532. When I was working on 2002s on a more regular basis I used the CD almost daily, not so much anymore. Good Luck and hope you come to the Bay Area 02 Swap and Show on May 19th in Palo Alto... http://bayarea02.com/events/swap_show/pre-reg-index.html
  15. Sry boat da missspelin, see ^ i fic id nou. :-) My Dad tought me that one (about the carbed M30 fuel pumps, not the bad spelling), that's what he and Franz Fechner (RIP) put on the Granada 1600-2 in '88-89 when they built it for my sister. They used them ALL the time in place of the 02 pump, I never knew any different.
  16. I've been using a Coupe/Bav pump forever (don't believe in over complicating carbed 02s with electric fuel pumps) part # 13 31 1 260 677 brand Pierburg. They have more volume than the 02 pumps (designed for dual carb setup) and 8mm inlets AND 8mm outlets AND should fit well with any dual carb/ Weber DCOE setup. They use the "early" fuel pump push rod #13 31 1 250 398 Don't forget to use 2 new bushings #13 31 0 075 752 Right now I can't find the proper # for the isolation block that has gaskets on it if you need it I will dig further. Right now I have to run off to jump start my father-in-law's 89 dodge electricians van..... he left the light on LOL :-)
  17. ...I do not recall who did francisscott site. And the picture of my parent's Tii came from Andrey Yurovsky's Website http://andrey.thedotcommune.com/, thanks again Andrey!
  18. http://www.francisscott.com/~bmw2002/Adobe/BMW2002.pdf Famed automotive journalist David E.Davis Jr wrote an article on the '68 2002 in the April '68 Car and Driver magazine that some have said instantly launched the car into cult status and brought some like minded individuals together to form what is today the BMW-CCA. "Something between nine and ten million squares will miss out on this neat little 2-door sedan with all the cajones and brio and elan of cars twice it's size and four times it's price, but some ten thousand keen types will buy them in 1968, so the majority looses for once." "To my way of thinking the 2002 is one of modern civilization's all-time best ways to get somewhere sitting down." Of all the articles ever written about our beloved 2002s this is the only one that still almost 40 years later gets referred to when people ask why is the 2002 so popular! In 1967 Car and Driver had a road test of the 1600-2 that in the very same issue had one of the VW 1500 Squareback. Guess which one cost less! The 1600-2 was about 300 dollars less. In 1972 my father sold his '65 Corvette 327 265hp convertible to make room for his new 2002tii. He still says the Tii would run circles around that Vette on his favorite backroads! Not in a straight line of course but in the tight twisties it was hands down the Tii that would come out ahead. That Tii was our main family car for 30 years, traveling with us across the US many times, driven at Drivers Schools with the BMW-CCA on Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Continental Divide Raceway, Lime Rock and Sebring (with 3 drivers at Sebring but that's a story for another time) and is still owned and loved by my Parents. The hole to mount my child seat is still on the parcel shelf! It's not just a car but a part of my family! "Now turn your hymnals to Number 2002 and we'll sing two choruses of Whispering Bomb....
