  1. whatever climate you live in! They'll BOTH work fine. Even though Redline MTL has been known for very good cold shifting, some in VERY cold climates prefer the thinner D4 ATF. Some only use the D4 ATF in the winter and change to MTL for the summer. Where I live the temps only get below freezing overnight for a few nights over the winter, and the summer can stay over 80 overnight and over 100 during the day. So I like the better bearing protection the MTL and MT-90 afford me in my weather conditions. So, I like to use MT-90 in my 240 5spd in the red 1600-2 (for the high temps it runs when driven hard in the summer), MTL in the 528e 5spd (for a bit better fuel mileage) and the synthetic ATF in my 4hp-22 automatics (for protection of the fragile slush boxes)! It's just like the classic engine oil viscosity debates that have been going on since the dawn of the internal combustion engine.........

  3. it's got all the special manual transmission, syncro additives as their MTL and MT-90 but in a ATF base that's been designed for those manual transmissions that normally require ATF like some later BMWs. Some people in colder climates like to be able to shift when the temps stay below freezing for long periods DO like to use thinner gear oils. There's nothing wrong with that, I just like the added syncro protection that the Redline gear oils afford me and my customers. JMO... I personally and professionally NEVER use regular Dextron-3 ATF in a manual transmission that doesn't normally require it; not for long term. I have used it for flushing a few trannys' that had very grungy gear oil and related shifting and bearing problems, but only for a few warm up miles to drain right out and change with proper manual transmission gear oil. But, I live and work where we don't usually see temps below freezing for more than overnight! :-) I also have first hand experience with a change to Redline gear oil curing mildly crunchy syncros for years. Even in trannys' that have had regular gear oil changes, not just those that have been neglected.
  4. I'm speechless, all I can say is to second the words of Steve and Jan. I didn't sleep much last night (probably none of us) waiting for word on the sisters condition. It truly IS a miracle that you we're in the right place at the right time! I've witnessed and been involved in more than my fair share of accidents and am so happy that there were so many so fast on scene to give assistance! The actions you and all others on scene took were true heroism! Thank You for the GREAT words and true heroism!! Thomas Morgan Jones
  5. What Steve is refering to is Blunt came out to California this weekend to co drive with Jan Echiverri aka. "pichos1" and family in the Alpine 500 in Jan's '69 M2 "DRSUAVE". http://www.alpine500.com/ I had a BLAST of a weekend to say the least. Thanks to all who attended and all who put the event on (Norm+++) and...... These are but a few pics. Many more to come if ya' want em'
  6. Yes, I'd recomend checkin' the pilot bearing too, BUT not until after you change the trans oil to Redline MTL. If you still expierence grindin' probs' after the gear oil change and driving it for at least 10 miles shifting up and down through all the gears, then and only then remove the trans to replace the pilot bearing and check or replace the clutch.
  7. 1) There is are early and late Idle Jets for the 32/36's and the 38/38's have ine of eash. I believe 6mm thread and 8mm thread. Try Jam Engineering for more information on MANY different Weber Idle Solenoid and jet holders.... http://www.jameng.com/ 2) Yes, I have used Jam Eng idle solenoid kits to put idle solenoids on my 38/38 DFEV.
  8. The gearbox you're trying to find is not from an E30 323i but an E21 european 323i. That may be why you're having so much trouble with people sending you the wrong ones.
  9. That is the stock (not motorsport!) carb setup for a Euro e12 520.
  10. Yup, the granada 1600-2 has been my secondary car for years now. The wife loaned out her 325 to her parent's so she gets my 528e and I have to use the 1600-2 on my 70+ mile commute. With all it's H&R this and Koni that I forgot how nice of a car it really is! Still not as comfortable as my 528e though. I grew up with my parent's tii as the MAIN family car! Road trips clear across the country and through Canada with the four of us, all packed in, the air shocks keepin' the rear level, camping gear in the trunk allong with the regular luggage all packed away IN the trunk. I just laugh at these classified ads I see where some poor schmuk says he has to get rid of the '02 because "a baby is on the way" so he can get some honkin SUV. I remember sittin' in the parking lot before By Scout trips and some parent asks my dad and I if we need to fit a couple of back-packs in their Volvo/Cherokee Vanagon. And loved the look on their faces when we packed in all four bags IN the trunk! Ahh, childhood memories.....
  11. I'm just glad I'm not the only one. She get's a kick out of it when we're out with my cousin Matt, 'cause the two of us are constantly calling out the makes, models and options of cool cars we see. My Grandfather could sit at his kitchen table and tell me almost every engine as it drove by the house. She (wife Rosee) asked me only once, where I got it from!
  12. In my line of work I just can't trust and or rely on results from harbor freight type compression and leakdown test equipment. I also always remove the valve cover(s) to be shure of TDC of each cylinder. What I use....
  13. from the 2002tii register! 1700+ pages! http://www.thetiiregister.com http://www.2002tii.org/phpmyfaq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=220447&id=62&artlang=en Of all the old original blue binders I've used this is the best and most complete I've seen!
  14. You should be able to find a good german aftermarket pump like Graff or Geba or Laso brands for less than $65. Shop around! bavauto.com shows $44.95 for what by the picture appears to be a Graff pump.
  15. LOL! My wife thinks I'm the only one who has car prts shipped to my work to hide them from her. But, of course she's on the computer looking at the credit cards all the time anyway so if I payed with a card she knows about it soon enough anyway! Now I get to show her this thread as proof that I'm not the only one! :-)
  16. when all the parts on a single "page" are NLA they delete the page from the disk. I have an older version and a current ETK in my computer and the old one does have more old car pages than the newest one. That's why some Dealers have a hard time looking up some parts that are simply not on the disk/program they're looking at. SOME dealers still have a set of the orange books at hand and can and will look up those obscure parts. When they check availability they are logging into the main computer at North America that's connected to Germany to. It really has helped to be able to refer to the pdf copy from the tii register; it's even more complete than my blue binders!
  17. The original paint is Glasurit/BASF why not use that? I'd think they would have the best color match. Spies Hecker is another german brand that others have used for good color match. What brand does your shop use for paint? I thought my detailed memory of my parent's tii would come in handy one day. We always taped off those thin spots when we polished the paint before every waxing. My Dad has always loved that car and the love of '02s and BMWs has rubbed off on me.
  18. Most of the time when I've seen errie electrical problems they can be traced to the ignition switch. With out knowing what year it is I can't look up the correct wiring diagram to reference to.
  19. Page 51/67 part #51 71 1 801 168 for the caps for sun roof cars. They show up NLA but that's just SSF's list price check feature, they may be produced again through the dealer..... You really need to dowmn load the pdf parts book from the tii register. :-)
