  3. If I were to do a complete color change including engine bay, door jams and trunk I would choose one of the period to '73 2002 metallic colors like... Baikal Blau 042 Nacht Blau 040, a Coupe color; very special order on an '02 Tundra Grun 068 Tiaga Grun 072 They're period yet striking, timeless, rare and all came with your saddle brown interior. On the other hand if I were not going to do a full complete color change I would stick with the Chamonix. 4. Picture it with the black hood/trunk/upper portions like an original Alpina Colorado Orange racer. Or like the Factory racers w/ the color slash on the nose and front fenders. 5. BUT if you measure from brake disk to brake disk across the front of the car ALL '02s have the same track. When you see front and rear track as listed in car magazines that is with the wheels on on the ground! So, when you put wider tires/wheels on, you are increasing the track! DOH!
  6. 2002ti had 121ti head w/ same large valves as tii and e12 head. Also 9.3:1 compression not 9.5:1. The E12 headed tii's used the 9.5:1 piano top pistons. All 02's in stock form (including Turbo) used the same valve springs. Only the 1800Ti/SA used the stiffer factory valve springs. 02's only used these springs when equipped with the 300 and 324 degree camshafts. 11. do it with the overlapping rope at the bottom you can install it all by yourself. I've done it this way professionally many many times. I use a heavy cotton string soaked in dishwashing liquid, and wrap it in the groove 2 times around for good measure, as sometimes it doesn't suck in all the way the first time. Start with one end around to the corner (not around it yet) then the next end around the corner, the back to the first one around to the next corner and so forth. I don't know about anywhere else to get a locking strip tool but the BMW one I have. BMW Tool # 51 3 058, then any good file handle from the local hardware store that fits.
  12. For Weber 32/36 dgav dgv dgev and 38/38 dfv dfav dvev air cleaner adapter for using a stock solex 2bbl (2 barrel) DTITA airfilter housing. http://www.redlineweber.com adapter #99004 351, gasket #99005 069 http://www.jameng.com kit #0-2200-0-209 Trim off the spot welded funnel portion from under the 2bbl air filter housing LEAVING the flat portion on for strength. LEAVE the inner short funnel INTACT. If you're lucky the easiest way is to cut one slot and wind/twist off the flange with a large pair of needlenose vicegrips. It's similar to opening an can of sardeens. Then carefully grind the rest smooth and paint to taste. For a gasket Trim and re-use the stock solex > airfilter rubber gasket to fit. BMW #13 71 1 263 041 If done cleanly this allows the filter housing to fit and attach as original WITHOUT having to drill ugly holes and bolting to the carb! 15. Sounds good, when you have any questions just ask here or email me personally at tjones02 at hotmail dot com. I've done a few 1600-2 to 2002 and tii conversions and have been living breathing '02s and BMWs my whole life.
  16. To make a safe modern driver you'd pretty much have to have a 2002 parts car '71 and later. To easily convert to a 5spd you should change to a "short neck" Differential and matching rear suspension. I recommend updating ALL the braking and pedal system to '69 and later 2002...etc... OR, you can keep it all stock and go into hock.
  17. The change over to the 230mm drums was basically when they went away from the remote booster setup (I think). After that the 1600 brakes mirrored the 2002's, every year. When the 2002 came out in '68 was when changes to the 1600 brakes mirrored those of the 2002, single circuit brakes included, right through the mid '69 change to dual circuit front brakes. At least that's the way it is for USA cars. I don't have much experience with Euro cars.
  18. If you have a choice go for something that's going to fit right, the first tims.
