2002 Owner age question

I owned a '71 1600 and '73 tii as daily drivers when they were near-new and I was young and single. Before them I had a '62 Plymouth Valiant, '69 Impala (new), a '73 Super Beatle (new), a '72 Carmen Ghia, a Porsche 914 and 914-6 and then the 1600 and tii. I picked up my current 1972 Malaga '02 in 2000, which was advertised as a "parts car" for $700, and have spent the last eight years throughly enjoying its rehab'. I'm 63 years old and this Board has been very helpful putting the finishing touches on this delightful car. Thanks for all the info.

... a '74 VW Beetle special edition "Sun Bug" (gold metallic paint, Porsche 914 seats & wheels) before falling for my first '02, a Sahara '70.

I picked up a Granatrot '74 for the rebuilt engine & tinted glass to put into the '70.

Found a one-owner '76, a Polaris car that spent its life in TX. Sold it to acquire my current '02, a '74 tii, "Juanita."

Nothing but BMWs in the stable for me - '85 325e, '86 535i, '00 328i.

I'm 51 years old.

Before I bought my first '02 ( a 1970 1602)back in '78 I had:

'62 VW Beetle

'66 VW Beetle

'73 Datsun 1200

'71 Chevy Malibu

'72 Mustang

'72 Mercury Montego (worst car I've ever owned)

'76 Dodge Celeste GT(same as Plymouth Arrow GT by Mitsubishi)

Since then I've always had at least one '02, plus many parts cars. Had a '73 tii (Chamonix/Blue), my favorite.

Other Bimmers owned include '77 320iA, '79 323i, '81, '82 and '83 320i, '85, '86 and '87 325e, '90 325is and '97 528i.

Went through my water cooled VW phase with '74 and '76 Rabbits, '84 GTI and '87 Jetta GLI, and dipped my toes into Mercedes ownership with a 190.

When the kids were small we also owned a couple of Toyota Corolla station wagon's, a '76 and a '80.

Currently have the '76 2002, an '83 320i, the '81 Baur 320/6 and a '86 325. My daughter owns a '93 325iA. I've been lucky to have company cars as daily drivers for the last 15 years or so, which makes owning old Bimmers almost exclusively a saner proposition.

4. 1977 blue jeep cj5 304 v8 ($1500).....stupid thing could pop wheelies...fun too!

5. 1977 anthracite 530i ($1500). The most luxurious ride I'd owned yet! and would still be going strong If the fool in the dodge durango had stopped at the stop sign....crushed, but it saved my life!

10.1976 anthracite 2002 ($1500) it is macco painted metallic blue and it is rough around the edges ...all of them, but the love affair is again anew, and this part project, part driver is mine!!

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
