Parts for sale section ad proposal

i'll go out on a limb and name names as an example of the likes of people that should have to create a store or pay a fee to post and bump threads...by far, all they do is sell, no other contributions to the forum aside from occasionally asking for info about a part they intend to advertise

charge them $5 to create an ad or bump it...that may slow them down or at least cause them to create one thread including all the parts they list singularly almost daily in addition to bumping a hoard of old threads...have them paypal friends and family to you, Steve... quick, simple and easy to do...or use the funds as a raffle...i don't care where the $ go, just do something to control the freeloaders

It is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.   Another way is that you can't have more than 2 concurrent listings, limit the bumps etc.

Running the site is a lot of work, and the time spent trying to referee the site is soul-sucking. The solution is to have us(the members) route out the folks that we want to see.

A simple solution is to be able to "Ignore" the person in the classifieds.  That way we can all decide for ourselves what we see in the classifieds.

I am still trying to figure out why people (not just here) need to regulate capitalism.  If you don't want to see an advertisement of a part you might need.  Use the search for that topic, and don't be lazy.  Hell, we could just ban or charge all references to business (2002only, URO, Maximillion, and all others that have a link to a commercial site) and or advertising on the site.  Where does it stop???  Then it would turn into an Ebay full of fees or Bring a trailer which was an awesome site, like this one.  Don't change a thing.  And by the way, how many members pay for this site, volunteering??  It's already sorted for you as Classified section.  Just don't click on it, if it bothers you.

My cheap $.02,

Matt

Esty,

Seb is a regular contributor on the general discussion forum. He may sell a lot of small parts, they’re typically well priced. I’m just saying he’s a valued board member( at least to me) and shouldn’t be on the same list as the other two you mention.

i agree, if the IGNORE feature hid the users post from appearing on the page that would work for us "fed up" people...but it doesn't currently work that way, all the threads appear, only the content of the blocked user is hidden

@Schnellvintage...i would absolutely pay $5 to post an ad and at least with ebay you can remove from site any item or seller you don't want on the page, in your results ...i offered to pay Steve for my carpet sales on the board but i suppose he couldn't figure out an easy way to make it work

sorry Seb if i am wrong...i think what we are saying is some people always seem to dominate the 1st page of the parts for sale....when i post a thread and the next day it's on page 2 or 3, i'm a little miffed...let me ask you Seb...yesterday, you posted a slew of threads for parts, why couldn't you have just made one thread listing all those items...i could easily post enough carpet threads to fill the 1st 2 pages but i don't do it that way out of courtesy to the other sellers

i, for one never go past page one on any of the forums unless i'm looking for something i recollect seeing earlier

and why do these guys constantly bump stale threads...if there was any interest the users will keep it at the top with their inquiries or the seller marks it SOLD, rather than bumping 6 threads to the top but stating "this item is still available, pushing everyone else farther down the list...

Only in CA and NY....LOL    Oh Wait I'm in CA and I despise these regulations with fees attached, not taxes.  Socialism at it's best (more like Commiefornia).  I think the assholes will be around with or without capitalism.

That’s not it, they were already assholes and are integrity challenged as well

I totally agree with many of those ideas. I'm also one of those guys with multiple ads (around 3-4) with my dashes and reproduction parts, but I admire those ideas.

1. People like me, @enoz05 and some others made profit from this forum and the most logical and normal thing is to show your gratitude to the forum and pay for it somehow - ad fee or membership, it doesn't matter. Actually not only because of the profit, this forum helped us a lot with info for our cars.

2. Some bumping limit should be made or limit of number posted ads. Sorry to the colleague mentioned above, nothing personal, but most of you said it already and mean it, at least it is not fair to someone who posted accidentally some part for sale and after a little it's going on 2nd or 3rd page because of one person bumping and posting too many ads. Moreover specifically for the lights, if i want to buy lights, i personally will get confused which one to choose from the many ads, instead of picking up a model from a single topic where all types are combined and regular updated.

P.S. That topic already made me to look in the membership section, (something i hadn't thought of by now 🫣) and to pick some plan

You know, growing up with so little but parents still taught us to share what little we had. Parents still taught us to be nice to others and be considerate of others and if you didn't have anything nice to say, just not say anything. And I have refrained myself from not naming any users in particular and I will continue to do so.

That is why I proposed that rules be for everyone, First ad of the week be free and every additional ad for a fee after that. Another new week rolls in and you can bump your free ad or place another free ad on top. If you feel the need to support the board or need the urgency to place multiple ads in a day then you pay.

It will be waste of resources to track or moderate any particular group of users or who contributes where etc (will require AI software etc.) but I do agree that paid members perhaps should get free ad spaces in the classified section and solex users get one ad free a week.

I think part of the problem with our classified section is that it's not broken into categories or subcategories and so anyone posting a part or multiple parts immediately gets their ad placed at the top of the heap which incentivizes the seller to "bump" for more exposure.  Sure you could tax or penalize this type of seller with a fee or limit on how often they bump or post but I think it may be time to also consider an overhaul of the classified section.  I belong to a Subaru forum and the classified section divides the sellers into categories and further divides the categories into subs such as "engine", "drivetrain", "wheels/tires".  It is so much easier to find items when you can search in a specific category and once your item is posted, there's no incentive to "bump" it and so all parts are essentially treated equally. I've attached a snip from the Subaru forum's Classified section so you can have a look.
