Um, If you are using a 240 from an E30 I dont see how you can avoid it. Might get away with it on the driver side but on the passenger side?The trans cases wider,  sticks out and contacts the bracket. Even perfectly centered and aligned there's only a few millimeters clearance. thats not enough

I suppose you could saw off some of the interfering trans case?

I had the same issue with the IE shifter and shifter plate hitting where the link pin attaches it to the shift shaft. I notched a angled section of the support for the shift plate on the side with the least clearance and it has been that way for 6 years or so.

Not sure if you were referring just to the 240/5, but good luck finding a 245 for $100.

Wasn't aware that an NK sedan speedo cable would work; good info.  Originally folks were advised to use one from an E21 as it was longer than the 2002 item; later suggestions were for a Bavaria cable, several inches longer yet, and  allowing a much gentler curve--something that's important for cable longevity.  I've had a Bavaria cable in my 5 speed conversion since 2004 and it's worked fine.  

 

My 5 speed conversion kit (from long defunct Autohaus in SLO) has a horseshoe-shaped rear mounting plate that allows using the original tunnel mounting brackets, and a shortened 2002 shifter platform.  Again, both have worked fine, even though I was initially leery of the horseshoe rear mount.  But it works fine.

The world changes.  I don't fucking like it much either, but I also think gravity's a big bummer.

 

There are no more E30's in the junkyards on a daily basis.  One or 2 might drop in-

but the consumables are usually already stripped, or stripped within a few days.

Like plastic bumpers, diffs, G260s and i heads.

 

The M10 5 speeds (which the OP shows in his '90's era video) are slow to go-

 

and so, it seems, people are trying to put them into 2002s.  Yep, they can work.

 

Nope, not the same way you stuff in a 245, tho.  The shifter's different, there's no speedo drive,

and the mounts are different.
