Jason - Most everything is out of the engine bay and underbody. Kept the wiring harness and steering column in and will have them work around them.

Also removed most of the trim, lights, etc, but as you see, kept the windows and adjacent chrome in place for them to deal with.

Also removed door cards and seats for easy access to seals/doors.

I stripped, prepped and painted the underbody myself with a sprayer using base color mixed by the shop. Arduous but very satisfying in the end.

Delia, does it have an A4 system and a close ratio 5-speed? If so, likely Jeff's old car. He had several telltales on it, like 5-series power mirrors. Ironically, I reached out to Jeff a couple months back and asked if he knew where that car was now. He had no idea.....

There were actually 2 hyperclean '72 Ceylon tii's in Atlanta back in the late '70's -- Jeff's as discussed here and Russell Kingston's.  From what I remember, Russell kept his bone-stock (no Alpina upgrades).  Dunno where Russell or his car are today but it was stunning.

Don,

It was brought up during the BaT Auction in September 2020 about who the original owner in Atlanta may have been.  Shall I assume it was you (dbower) who brought up Russell Kingston's name in the comments section?

This car is remarkably stock and never modded or rebuilt according to a well-respected mechanic in San Francisco's North Bay.  Close inspection of other cosmetic details indicates it to be low-mileage - and unrestored except for paint.

I looked up Russell Kingston and found an obituary stating someone with that name passed away in August, 2020 - one month prior to the BaT Auction. The legend continues.

The winning  bidder had been looking for quite some time in search of the right car and contacted me regularly for advice. After I saw the car listed on BaT, I sent him an email told him this was THE ONE!

Ten months later came the Hillsborough Concours d'Elegance trophy.

Sounds easy, doesn't it?

After months of delay for one reason or another, car has been sanded down to metal and metal work has started.

Happy that there were no big surprises under the paint!

Excited to get her back in a golden package soon.

Really happy with the color.

New headliner is in and doors, hood, trunk are next.

Can’t wait to get her back in my garage to start the assembly,  Maybe in a few weeks….maybe.

Unusual and rather rare color, like Turkis.  I can only recall seeing 4-5 Ceylon cars over the past 50 or so years; same with Turkis, although I think Ceylon is less common even than Turkis.

Looking forward to seeing it completed.

TBH, prior to paint, I was a little hesitant to revert to Ceylon… partly because I was used to the silver paint job that the car had when I purchased it, and partly bec of color variation that I was seeing on photos of Ceylon cars. Never saw one live and was worried it would drab.

Concerns vanished when I saw my car for the first time in the shop…so happy with it.

Will take my time putting everything back together while upgrading the trim and a couple of items. Many photos and questions to come!

Appreciate all the support from this awesome community!

It’s really gorgeous, Vince! Maybe I should paint my Inka tii Ceylon!

No, you know I could not do that, but your car is stunning! When the brightwork goes on, it will be a jewel!

One of the 4, maybe 5, BMW’s in my town growing up was a Ceylon Bavaria — this was the early 1970’s — and it lived just down the street from me. It was driven by some old lady — who I now realize was probably 40 years old ? — and I thought it was a very daring color for someone that age.  Now YOU can be that “old guy” with a very daring BMW color!

Enjoy! ?

Best regards,

Steve
