Ever seen sweating master cylinder reservoir hoses?

Weird.  Guess I need to get some braided hoses.

Probably fuel  hose. Not compatible , the brake fluid is disintegrating them.

Yup, micro cracks for sure. As tech 71 said fuel hose is not brake hose.

Yeah, time to go to the aircooled VW shop and get the right brake hose.

 

I've had the cheap stuff from cheap places do that- even with 'brake fluid' hose.

Fuel Hose...wrong for this application. These days Samco black silicone is widely available, much better than the original cloth covered stuff

Yes, improper hose. 
 

Tygon is another good choice for brake reservoir hose.

I really like the blue cloth covered hose.   Reminds me of my old VWs.  Does your VW bus have blue cloth hoses?

 

Be careful pushing the hose onto the reservoir nipple that feeds the clutch.  The bottle is thin and it is easy to kink it.  The blue stuff I bought is a tight fit.

Yup...as others had said, someone used fuel hose. Happened to my '75 a couple of months ago, bought a meter length of the official BMW 21521163714 now black braided cloth hose for ~$10. Replaced the MC grommets and plastic inserts as well at the same time. All dry now.
