We know you got those steelies mounted on the car today. Spill the beans already

alright alright. I did get them on.

@chargin sold me his old Vogtland lowering springs and I slammed them

in with my buddy Tony. We cut one coil up front and I think the stance is SPOT ON.

and finally how it sits after it’s all said and done. Rides like a sporty dream. SUCH an upgrade.

Ryan- viewing the road-side pics, please tell us you installed an exhaust support at the header.  Did the car come with poly bushings?

ps: thanks for reminding me of the tii part provenance

pps: Love this car.

Jim

Jim! I didn’t install it yet. I have it right here next to me but I haven’t even looked at it yet to make sure with will work with the g240 5-speed trans. It’ll probably work though.

this car came with a blend of poly bushings and rubber. The red poly bushings are strategically placed and don’t compromise ride quality at all which I’m thankful for. These red bushings were done at least 15 years ago (minimum) and they still look and feel fantastic, even with stock suspension before the new springs and rear sway bar.

God I love tii’s so much. They are the perfect balance of power and class. A carbureted car is just *different* from a tii. And I think part of the tii allure is that you can’t modify the engine without making the rest of the system angry. It works so well straight out of the box and keeping it running smoothly is a lesson in discipline and beauty by itself. It’s art.

This car IS awesome.  Last time I hit Walmart to get a battery they didn’t have the correct one, so I had to improvise a bit.  Good to know they still stock it.

Thanks Scott! Appreciate the nice words.

I really like the guys out there. But to be honest, they (MCS shocks) are really for the 'way too much is just barely enough' crowd.

This was the first set of 2wnr made for the 2002 a little bit ago, on tii spindles. This set is on its way out to CA for an incredibly nice M2. Only reason I took them off is because my new car uses different suspension...

IMG_20200509_094924.jpg

as much as I want to lose control and go insane on suspension and then power and then interior and spend $20k, I have to constantly remind myself that I have faster cars, that were designed 30 years later, with a go fast mentality from the beginning of the engineering phase.

2002s were economic family cars and their price point reflected this. It’s nice driving these cars at their limits and using every HP available to me in an OEM+ platform.

Oh right, I also had a set of euro amber signals made up and installed. My buddy who does all the signal manufacturing also threw me a set of used but polished tail light lenses.

Focusing on driving it lately.

last night I did an emergency surgery on the tii alternator. The Mounting bushings completely disintegrated and I had to press a set of poly alternator bushings in and get everything reinstalled. Took a few hours all in but it went fairly smoothly.

I stopped by Rey’s shop and he immediately mentioned I’m running the wrong radiator fan. That it was way too big and is touching the radiator on hard braking or accel. I need to look into this and get the right fan installed ASAP. She runs cool as a cucumber though.

Crystal Cove toward Laguna Beach? Doesn’t get any better. Perfect weather, except that red tide smell. Car looks great!

yeah that is correct! Fun little section of coast. The cops are in maximum overdrive right now. Everyone is getting tickets left and right for speeding and loud exhausts.

Did some more things.

Called a very skilled PDR guy to bang out a bunch of dents on the car. We’re talking 50 years of door dings and some stranger and larger dents on the driver door and driver quarter panel.

I removed the door panels in preparation. Figured this would also be a good time to redo the Mylar tape on all panels.

and that’s that.

next up, paint remedy and center console redo.

Does someone make ready to go center console kits? Shorty type.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
