square tail light rubber gaskets

AFAIK the rubbers for squarelight are pre-moulded and are for lefts and rights; don't think they interchange...

that makes perfect sense, but unfortunately, nothing out there shows that. RealOM shows this illustration (#3) which is #63211356945

but google and the major parts suppliers I listed above have this for BMW #63211356945

Anyone done up a 3D model of these gaskets? At my work they just opened a "maker lab" with all kinds of cool toys, I'm thinking that printing or machining a mold for these might be a fun project. Can't let this brand new Haas cnc mill or the $150k 3D printer just sit idle!

An even better project for that fancy machinery would be the door gasket that seals the trailing edge of the window to the B pillar.  People would be standing in line to buy that, as it's the only part of the door gasket that actually deteriorates.

Also the base gasket for the swan neck mirrors used on NK sedans and 02's 'till the end of the '69 model year.  That part isn't even in the parts book!

  • 4 years later...

I'm getting back to this. I acquired two rubber gaskets (right and left). They do not appear any different than what's installed. One issue I see on one is the right stud one the left tail light lend is not long enough to get any threads past the hole of the inside cover to get a nut on it. Are the studs replaceable? they appeared to be glued in. I don't want to bust a $400 lens finding out. I would think this is the issue, but my other lens is fine, tight, but has the same leak issue.

That said, I cannot feel any moisture around the light fixtures, just on the carpet below. I've reinstalled the trunk gasket twice.

I did feel moisture on the plastic vent tube in the upper left corner, but no signs of water running down the wheel well below it.

stumped.

Can't help with the sealing details, but

I've found that those ubiquitous blue 'shop towels'

work really well as leak detectors.  Stuff them around where you think it's leaking,

and they'll wick up moisture where it's getting in.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
