We took the ‘73 for its engine rebuild. Note my carefully applied “Barn Find” finish! ?

Those were damned good years, Tom! It hurts to pull off those Georgia plates (although the car has been registered and insured up here since 2016)!

Best regards,

Steve

i like the Park tool hidden as well

Ha, thats my e39 rear sway bar link tool, also have their 1/4 drive torque wrench for the light stuff. Great tools.

Those look awesome! Amazon?  Link?   Thx!

Not cheap but works well, have the screwdriver/ratchet holders also. Tools don't slide around and saves time looking for stuff.

I have six sets of screwdriver holder and four of the wrench, need another four of the wrench holders. I always wait for a sale. Also opened up two drawers for more tools.?

I like the color ?. Who is doing the rebuild?

Hey, Rick,

VAC Motorsports out of Philly is doing the engine overhaul. They appear to be a BMW racing engine specialist. My “local ‘02 specialist”, Jack Miller (Jack’s Auto and Aero) of Bainbridge, PA, is handling the engine removal, reinstallation, coordination, and tuning. Jack — who is close to my age — still owns his father’s ‘67 Alpina-modified 1600-2, providing as much street cred as I need...

I wanted to meet the engine builder at VAC, however, before my precious block went to him. He was excellent, reasonable, experienced. But I was VERY put off by the young VAC salesman, who had never heard of a 2002 or tii!!! ??

When I showed up at Jack’s with the car, I said “Let’s just ship the engine to Korman — they did a great job with my ‘76”. But after a discussion with Jack regarding what VAC’s engine builder had historically done with other of Jack’s projects, I decided I would get a first-rate job at VAC, given Jack’s history and relationship with them.

So that’s where I’m at.

The car was factory Inka, home-painted Malaga in the 1980’s. We’ll get to the paint next!

Regards,

Steve

Replace the throttle cable from the foot box to the plunger, and two of the cables from the plunger to the carbs (the last photo is of the two were bent from binding on the hood before I cut a window in it).

I put some shrink tube on where the cable from the foot box goes into the plunger, that’s what broke, thus causing me to having an replace it (photo #5)

Re-synched the carbs, took it for a test drive, ready to roll this Saturday for the “Neue Klasse” in Los Gatos.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
