What did you do to your 2002 today !

Recommended Posts

Ok this is a momentary “What did you do “with” your 2002 today?” thread diversion.

I took my car Auto Xing with the San Diego Chapter of BMW CCA at Qualcomm Stadium in a light rain today for its’ Birthday.

Lots of wheel and car spinning fun.

Unfortunately, my 74 was the only 02 out there.

In my contineuing effort to get my car ready for the PVGP and O'Fest, I dropped the front subframe and cleared everything out of the engine compartment getting ready for cleaning and painting.

Spent some time poking around my new-to-me '73. Swapped out the steering wheel for a Renown 100, I love the look but it sits a little close to me. I'll likely need to switch to their Monaco to get a little bit more room.

I also lowered the coilovers back to where they were. The car was raised before shipping. Never mind the oil drips, didn't come out of my 02.

Finally, I installed the Ireland Engineering throttle pedal. Because the car has a G260 swap, the trans tunnel was widened. The stock pedal no longer fit, and pushing just the throttle rod was getting a little annoying. Easy install, no more nubs, and makes a world of difference.

Got the rear subframe out today plus some little stuff like the rear bumper.  Next I have to build a dolly and pull all the trim to get the car over to soda blasting and paint.  THinking about one of those wooden tiptissorie things....

Finished trimming my front and rear springs now just need to put new tires on the back. Fired her up today and it’s making a terrible screeching sound. Any ideas? Only happens when there is a vacuum in the crankcase. I hope the video uploads haha

my pic above at Angelo's is actually a "copycat" ..... there's a local dude who has fantastic artistic talent and takes great photo's of his 2002 ..... so when I see one of his great photo's, I'll find the same location and take a cheesy low-brow copycat .....

here's his original, full of taste, style, and masterful composition .....

Realizing I had few remaining (rear control arm / wheel bearing) spare inner sleeves and shims to replace damaged units, I did some ‘creaky-and need-practice math’ and then machined the sleeve until smooth and ‘backed out’ the numbers to determine the shim size ... used the lathe + surface grinder to get the desired 0.1mm of clearance. -KB

The real tip-off, Carl, was the shiny rims on his car.... ?

Best regards,
