  1. Agree with the previous comments. I'd DEFINITELY pass on this one. I bought a '73 Sahara 2002 in June of 2017 for less than this and in much better shape. Mine had a fresh engine rebuild, a nicely redone interior, new bumpers and trim, working a/c, a quality repaint in its history, etc. I bought mine from a very knowledgeable, trustworthy owner, leading to no regrets at all on my part. I flew out to Denver on a one-way ticket and I drove it back to Ohio. Trust. The comments regarding the condition of the car are quite important, BUT...… do you trust the word of the seller? Do you trust the alleged history of repairs, damages and alterations to this 02 over the many years? If you were to purchase this 02, you would need to repair the rear end damage. You'd need to address the engine, since it is clearly tired. Then you'd need to find material for the driver's seat, etc., etc. You'd end up closer to $30K eventually....
  2. I have owned a "worst year" 2002 and a "best year" 2002, both in Sahara. (the "worst color" according to many!) I found it very easy to love both of them. I must admit that the very clean lines and the simplicity of the earliest 1600s and 2002s are quite appealing. I was tempted to buy an early 1600-2 several times. Any 2002 will draw a crowd, whether concours or ratty; they're just fascinating regardless. Yaadeh Shahin: BRISTOL. You won't regret it! Do it.
  3. I had the opportunity to purchase this 2002 in 2017 before Reggie Stewart bought it. The price was too high in my opinion, so I passed on it. Reggie negotiated a better price and he bought it not long after I'd considered the car. Reggie fixed a number of things and later sold it. The current asking price is a huge leap above what I might have paid for it in 2017! Perhaps I should have bought it, I don't know. I am very happy with the one I purchased from Andrew Ganz, however.
  4. For the reasons listed above, this blue Frankenbimmer does not speak to me. But what do I know? I drive a very sedate, original looking Sahara 02. I go for the mild, not the wild 2002s. But seriously, the way that it was redone (haphazardly?) will appeal to a smaller niche of first-time 02 buyers; not so much to the long-time 02 owners. (Photo: This was taken on Saturday 2-1-20; Gave this teen from Germany a thrill. It was Adrian Heidrich's first ride in a 2002 and his first time in the liberal mecca called Yellow Springs, Ohio. By some miracle, we managed to meet Dave Chapell in a coffee shop in Yellow Springs. Dave is a gracious, kind, cool guy!)
  5. Thanks a lot! I couldn't begin to start, run or fix such a site. Kudos!
  6. Welcome to the obsession with 2002s! I am in Kettering (a Dayton suburb). Mike Self lives nearby in Beavercreek, another Dayton suburb. Eager to see your purchase and to have you join our group of 02 owners on a drive.
  7. First? Removal of the aftermarket window tint. I don't like aftermarket window tint. I can't see through it at night for one thing and it looks bad in the daytime. Each used BMW that I have purchased, had to have the tint job removed.

Here's the group photo from Saturday night's gtg at 3840 Robertann Drive:
  9. My garage fortunes are beginning to improve. I will have pictures to prove this in a few months time. Love that photo at the top of the thread.
  10. My Christmas present to Mary's nephew: his first ride in a 2002, ever. Since he has been driving manual transmission Hondas for quite a few years, I told him to take the wheel and drive it. Joel was a very happy guy, speeding through the Greene county countryside on Christmas Eve. He had never driven a car anywhere near that OLD. It was a revelation to him.

I have posted this event on Facebook as well. The venue will be my house this year. Mary and I will provide the Mettwurst, Bratwurst, Knockwurst, sauerkraut balls, potato pancakes, beer, wine, etc. If you have a favorite, then BYOB. If you overdo it somehow, we can put you up for the night. If the weather is nasty later in the evening, likewise, stay overnight. Address: 3840 Robertann Drive, Kettering, OH 45420. Clear your calendars. Come and represent the RGB and all things 2002. See you in January!!
  12. Good Luck! If you pass through Ohio, give me a holler. I can put you up for the night and feed you!
  13. There are 2002s in Ohio; more than you might imagine. Welcome to the addiction.
  14. That does not look like a BMW paint code at all. Maybe an odd GM color? Time for new wheels, lowering springs and some Bilsteins! Good Luck, friend! Welcome!
  15. This is a great start for some one interested in a 2002 project. It's needs aren't too intimidating either. I met the young man who owned this car. He and his dad were working on this '76 Mintgrun and a blue E28 sedan that had a very long list of issues. As I recall, they were getting overwhelmed by the two projects. They live in a rural area north of Dayton somewhere. I was envious of the large barn where they kept the 2 BMWs....
  16. That was fast! Does that same couple want to bid on your next car for sale as well?
  17. What is the VIN? You can send it in to BMW to get the build date and delivery date. BTW, Terry Sayther in Austin, hosts a fall drive in late October through the hill country between Austin and San Antonio. Your 320i would be welcome there. Good luck with the Sahara/Golf 02!
  18. Amazing story. Sad story. Glad that you are mostly intact. That perpetrator needs to pay for the damages and he should lose his license as well. Don’t let the idiot get away with this. We are pulling for you to be completely restored; you and your BMW!
  19. I remember going to a Mercury dealer in Cincinnati with my father in 1973. The dealer was selling Hondas probably as a hedge. The gas crisis was on, so land yachts were dropping in value. Interest in subcompacts was accelerating rapidly. I sat in a tiny Honda that was the direct predecessor of the Civic. I was only five foot seven back then and skinny. I filled up that front seat and there was no way that my father would fit in that car. However, I was intrigued with it. I ignored the Cougar, the Marquis and the Lincoln that were prominently displayed in that showroom. The Honda seemed well-built, despite its diminutive stature. I was already fascinated with small cars that promised to deliver more with less. I still admire small cars that are thoughtfully engineered to meet specific goals related to size, weight, performance, fuel economy, price, function, quality, reliability, appearance, etc. The VW Beetle, the Citroen 2CV, the Fiat 500 and the Austin Mini are cars that nailed the target and delivered what was desired in a subcompact. Evidently Honda successfully found the niche for the Civic, then the Accord, the Prelude, the Odyssey and many others.

  22. A Sahara big bumper car! All right! Good for you. The closest I have been to a family vacation using my 2002 was when I took my wife and my son to Watkins Glen, NY for the annual Vintagefest there. It was a great trip and my 02 did not let me down. I have had good luck on all of my longer road trips, actually. On shorter trips around town, I've had a hose failure and a water pump failure, but that wasn't too bad over the course of 15+ years!
  23. Safety colors. No. I have come very close to being hit in bright red cars and even in a Golf 2002. If you're not looking, you won't see the brightest car anyhow. Photo below shows me before I was old enough to drive dad's pride and joy, but hey....later on I drove it with great gusto.
  24. Thank you to Frank and Denise Greppo! Thanks also to the legions of volunteers who made it all happen. I had a great time introducing Wil Tinker and Dirk Rasmussen to the 2019 version of Vintage at Saratoga. ( - - which they LOVED) We couldn't find a room at a reasonable rate in Saratoga Springs, so we got rooms at a Days Inn in Albany. (not a long commute anyway) Great to see friends and to make new ones! We will be back...
