  1. That is a sad 02. Just give it away to someone who might find something useful out of what’s left of it! Silly ad!!

  8. Brit, I assume that the spare tire well will fit any 2002 or 1600, except for the 2002 turbo edition. Jim
  9. Guys: I am clearing out some storage space. First, a spare tire well with no rust through; it's ready to be welded into your project car. Second: an original air cleaner can. Third: a shifter boot. Fourth: a fan blade. Fifth: a used 1600 mirror. Sixth: a used valve cover, stamped 72 (year). In addition, (Seventh) I have a bus-style steering wheel that was original to my '73 2002. Eighth: a miscellaneous mirror that I don't know the history of. Ninth: Front bumper brackets from a 1973 2002 in excellent condition. Tenth: old instrument cluster, obviously it is lacking a speedometer. Eleventh: a locking gas cap with no key; good otherwise. I plan to attend the next Vintage in NC, if/when it next occurs....I won't ship the front bumper brackets either, they're too heavy and the shipping would be $$$. Same as above with the spare tire well...
  10. I just love this photo. This was taken at a Cars & Coffee in Batavia, Ohio last Saturday by Jason Gipson. So, in the photo, there's my Sahara 02, Scott Aaron's Verona tii, and Jason's Beer Snob.
  11. I can imagine Mike Wheeler bringing this Mini to Edd China to fix up. Edd would have quickly rejected it as too beaten up.
  12. I was watching this documentary today with Mary when I was startled by the sight of a 2002 just to the side of CSN during the photo shoot for their famous album cover shot on the porch of a dilapidated house that was promptly bulldozed days later. Who's 2002 was it??
  13. This tired, beat-upon 2002 is not the 02 you're looking for. You can do so much better. This one would be a bottomless pit for tossing your money into. It's going to need EVERYTHING. It is so forlorn, it should be given away free. Sad, sad, sad.
  14. My Dad with his 72 Golf 2002. Probably Spring of 1973?
  15. That is amazing. That looks like my 02, so I wish that it were me enjoying the scenery and the whole experience.
  16. Yesterday (5-23-20) was epic fun all around. We had a huge turnout, wonderful weather (mostly!), great roads and a great group of RGB'ers. We welcomed new members such as Javier Gutierrez and his new-to-him 73 Sahara 2002. There were others that we hadn't seen for a while (John Harvey, Mike McCarthy & Kevin Funk come to mind) and die-hards like Jason, Jake, Scott, Wil, Jonathan, Dirk, Charlie and me. We wish we could do without masks and social distancing, but despite that, we had a great day. We also could do without the downpour afterward, but we did fine regardless. I need a count. How many cars? How many people showed up? So pleased that so many of you were there. Feel free to add photos to this post!!
  17. I had an opportunity to buy this 68 Polaris 02 before Reggie Stewart purchased it. The seller wanted $18,000 for it at that time. It needed some things fixed, which Reggie did once he owned it. So, it's definitely a better car now, but the value did not go up nearly so much as the seller seems to think.
  18. I get to be the topper. I live in Kettering, Ohio. I work at Kettering Medical Center. My kids all graduated from Kettering Fairmont High School. AND...… I used to talk daily to his daughter-in-law, Virginia Kettering, when I was doing home health care work in the early 1990s. I was caring for Virginia's wealthy friend and she'd call at the end of each shift to get a full, concise report. Apparently I passed the test with her. In 1964, Virginia and her husband donated the land and the money to build the Kettering Medical Center. Their home on a hill overlooking the hospital is now used by the big cheeses of Kettering Health Network.
  19. Who owns the cars? Enthusiast Auto Group? A private collector? Is the dealer open for business these days? I want to go see them, but I don't have a pressing need to drive to Cincinnati at the moment.... I'll have to come up with a reason.
  20. The RGB was well represented on the back roads of Greene County yesterday. We met at Mike Self's house and drove to the house of the previous owner of Dene Berman's 2002. Dene and Mike have just recently completed a comprehensive restoration of Dene's 1975 Fjord 2002. The car had been sitting still for more than 20 years. (16+ on the previous owner's driveway and then about 4 years of work by Dene & Mike) It took some rust repair, a respray, new carpet, new upholstery, extensive repairs to the badly cracked dashboard, new tires, new hoses, new gaskets, etc. Anyhow, the previous owner and his wife were amazed to see the restored 2002. It was his primary vehicle when they met in 1980. Both had driven it, but it eventually got set aside and was mostly forgotten. It's come a long way since Mike first gazed upon it, sitting by itself, neglected. Anyhow, we hit the back roads on a clear, cool, sunny Spring day. Very few other cars were on the road, the pavement was dry and we enjoyed the sharp curves and some beautiful scenery. We crossed the Little Miami River eight times, I think. After the drive, we pulled into a park. I got out my cooler and we walked over to the creek and popped open some adult beverages to toast Dene and Mike's success in saving one more 2002 from the crusher. Congratulations!!
  21. For a while, it was my 1987 E30 as the sidekick. Now, it's my 2014 Mini. However, I'd still like to own a Bavaria and I'd still like to own a late model E30 325is.
  22. I kept looking for flaws. If there are any, they're well hidden. Beautiful. Good on you for thinking of others. You are most generous.
  23. Scott is right. It isn't about collectability or auction prices. It's about the fun that you can have owning, driving, caring for and making friends with - - as you own it. I've lost money on cars, but I've had fun.
  24. Enjoy your adventure! I am overdue for such a trip in my 2002. When I flew in to Denver to pick up my 'new' 2002 in 2017, I found a great little motel for the night in Beloit, KS. Hoping that you find interesting sights, tasty foods, quaint motel courts, interesting people - - along the way.
