  1. We are glad that you joined us, too! It's great to hear that you had such a good time.
  2. My dad certainly read the David E. Davis, Jr. article in Car and Driver: "Turn Your Hymnals to 2002" - - and bought a '72 Golf '02 in early '73. Kudos to you for preserving such an early 2002!
  3. I read the Roundel article and watched the Petrolicious video.... Even Mary (my wife) loved that video! Lisa spoke for all of us, most eloquently, too! Bravo!
  4. We had ourselves a very enjoyable Red Beans & Rice dinner on Robertann Drive this evening. Thanks to: Mike and Carol Self, Ray Daley, Frank and Denise Greppo, Andrew Wilson and Robert Cruz for sharing this pre-Eureka Springs gtg with Mary and me. Now, I need to think about packing for the trek. We pull out early tomorrow morning.
  5. Sorry.... it was posted here on the FAQ and on Facebook. It is on/around April 21st each year. (Jason's birthday)
  6. Perhaps the springs had already been replaced on my former 328ci coupe. I had no issues with the suspension. The car had over 155K on the odometer when sold.
  7. The TV that ad I pulled up on YouTube was from a 1975 Wide World of Sports episode. After more than 40 years, I remembered that ad pretty well....
  8. Mike, you sound like the old guy driving a Model A in the Midas commercial from long, long ago... "Howdy Boys!....(as he drives up to the shop; the employees recognize him & grimace...) It says 'Annabelle' gets a free muffler!...(as he shows them his guarantee...) ...See you again, boys!" (as he leaves Midas with a great big smile)
  9. There is a very famous '02 named Louie Agave. (Louie refers to Louisville where it was residing at the time of purchase with Agave referring to the paint color.) You could insert a different first name that references the locale of your '02....
  10. Recently washed, but garaged right now. We just got three inches of snow for our first day of Spring.
  11. Congratulations! I assume that you are somewhere in California. You're in luck, there are lots of 2002 owners in your state and a number of shops that cater to classic BMW owners. First word of advice: make sure that your '02 is safe & reliable. Worry about the looks of your car later on... You must have good brakes, shocks, tires, hoses, belts, etc. Make sure that the cooling system is doing its job properly. Take it out on relatively short drives to shake out the trouble spots. The more you drive it, the more you will notice things that are amiss and need attention. Also, get in touch with local '02 owners; they'll be very happy to help you and will be eager to include you in the fun of ownership. Pretty quickly, your goal will be true road-worthiness: i.e. - - going on road trips with friends, gatherings with like-minded 2002 owners... Have FUN.
  12. Yeah, $75K sounds like a whole lotta money to most of us, but to serious ($$$$) collectors, this car could be a bargain.
  13. Congratulations on your new adventure with 2002's and good luck. I've included my noob photo, shortly after I purchased a rust-free '75 '02 down in Athens, AL... (2004)
  14. Walter: We head back to Ohio on Sunday. I am driving a four-speed '02 with a recent (2017) engine rebuild. These cars are tough and they aren't opposed to high-revving, in fact, they enjoy it.
  15. I like it a lot, but seeing as I am not sitting on millions of dollars, it seems very expensive to me. It is a rare time capsule from a time before BMW's were common in the US.
  16. I'm guessing the top three paint codes by volume will include: Chamonix, Sahara and Malaga. Am I right??
  17. Yes, a bunch of people stayed at my house that year, but we were all en route to Vintage in NC. The welcome stands. If you're passing through, I can put you up and serve up breakfast! (the photo below has me in my now-sold '75 Sahara during a 4th of July parade in Yellow Springs, Ohio...)
  18. I met you at the Vintage Fest in Chicago one time. I was without an '02 for a while, but I came back. Instead, I had a 2000 328ci and an '87 325 eta coupe for a while. Join us at Eureka Springs in April.
  19. Franz finally came out of the garage. The battery had lost its charge, so the terminals were cleaned and the battery was recharged. After a successful drive on Saturday through Greene County, Kettering and Oakwood, this 02 received a thorough washing and a shorter drive yesterday. The dark window tint is coming off very soon.
  20. The Bay Area is a great hunting ground for 2002's. So is southern California. Good luck! Talk to and meet up with some of your local 2002 owners... They will be happy to help you. Colors: People are nutso for Inka and a few other paint codes. Easier to buy and plentiful: Chamonix, Malaga, Sahara, Siennabraun, Polaris, etc. My first 2002 was found in northern Alabama. It was sold new in Montgomery, AL. Very little rust. It was tired, yet complete. It needed brakes very badly. Then it needed an exhaust manifold, a shifter rebuild, lots of hoses and belts, a clutch, a guibo, shocks, struts, etc. However, there was very little down time. It was 'Okay" once the brakes were redone. I had a great learning experience and a lot of fun. My current 2002 was sold new in Austin, TX and spent most of its 'life' in Texas. I bought it last June. Besides the advice you have already received, be a good judge of the seller. I have found that if I am comfortable with the seller, things work out fine. If something is a bit off, I won't buy the car. I am including a photo of me as the newb in 2004:
  21. It's a long drive, but it's what I want for my birthday each year. Enjoy these images from 2010:
