  1. Hey Everyone: This was posted on the RGB Facebook page, but here goes: Plan to attend a gtg at Eudora in Kettering, OH on Saturday February 3, 2024. Plenty of beers, ales and wine will be available plus they have good food there too. I will be there from 4:30PM until whenever. It will coincide with my one-year anniversary of retirement. YAY. We have spare bedrooms at my place if you need a place to rest overnight!
  2. Good luck! I favor recapturing the original look and feel of the tii. It was never a turbo in the first place. But.... it's yours. Follow what feels right to you.
  3. Send it off to the local vocational school. They could spend 1000s of hours cutting, grinding, welding, shaping, etc. Great practice. (I think?) I see it as a reality show for BMW nerds. Good idea?
  4. Mine (Franz) had its 50th birthday in February of 23. Still going strong and creating miles of smiles. Build date: February 20, 1973.
  5. Welcome. I bought my first 2002 in Alabama where it had lived since new with virtually no rust. Years later I bought an E30 that had been in California most of its life, no rust. I later bought my current 2002 which had spent most of its life in Texas, no rust. California has some sunbaked cars: cracked leather seats, cracked dashboards, cooked paint jobs, so there is no magic in California.
  6. Congratulations, John! Welcome to the madness. We do hope that you join our RGB caravan. I plan on driving to Eureka Springs, AR for MidAmerica 02 Fest and to The Vintage in Hot Springs, NC. I bought two tickets for the 02 raffle, but oh well, you're the lucky one.
  7. All the buildup, but now we are curious....Who Won??
  8. Used and in good condition. I swapped them out for stiffer sway bars. Can deliver to MidAmerica 02 Fest or to The Vintage.
  9. Bottlecap wheels are in very good condition. Tires have been removed. Can bring them to MidAmerica 02 Fest or to The Vintage in NC. Price is OBO.
  10. Worth every last dollar of your asking price. It would cost far more to achieve this level of tii perfection with a project tii! I always knew that your 02 was impressive, but WOW.
  11. Supposedly....mice hate the scent of Irish Spring soap. I sure hope that is true!! BTW: my 2002 is Franz!!
  12. Today I decided that it was time to put the 97 Miata to bed for the season. It was sitting on our driveway, so I drove it the short distance to our workshop in the backyard. I disconnected the battery, and I strategically placed a number of bars of Irish Spring soap throughout the car to discourage mice. Next, I removed a few leaves from the space near the firewall. However, instead of a leaf, I felt something solid and metallic. It was this 10mm wrench left there by a previous owner. For quite some time I believed that the rattle coming from the front was the fault of the hood being out of whack. Well, surprise, surprise, surprise!
  13. Joining your Texas drive next year! Glad that y'all had so much fun!
  14. I can worry about the details of it all when I win the car. The transition from a 73 Sahara to a 73 Nevada shouldn't be too difficult to manage!
  15. Please keep sending photos and updates on your progress with this NK hunk of patina. Good luck and happy motoring...once it's roadworthy, that is!
  16. Exciting! Can't wait to see it; though it may be a while before its first appearance at a vintage BMW event. Good luck!
  17. I love it when an 02 owner takes their car on a grand adventure. Like Mike Self, I have thought about a Route 66 trip to the west coast. We have talked about a road trip retracing Morgan's Raid during the Civil War too. I've driven an 02 to Chicago, Eureka Springs, AR, Saratoga Springs, NY, Winston-Salem, NC, Asheville, NC, Hermann, MO and there was a road trip to buy my 73 2002 in 2017 between Denver, CO and Dayton, OH. Only once on such a trek did my 2002 require a tow. (due to a broken rocker arm & a cracked cylinder head) Anyhow, thank you for sharing with us. Keep sending the photos and text from your trip! Good luck and have fun. (I could never sleep in my 2002; just too big to try that in the first place!)
  18. I have been meaning to attend this event for a number of years. Work, family events and other 'stuff' always seemed to get in the way. This year I had to miss MidAmerica 02 Fest in Eureka Springs, AR, so I was determined to check out Deutsche Marques at long last. One advantage: is the relatively short distance we'll need to drive to get there. (not the only advantage surely) Looking forward to seeing familiar faces and to meeting some new folks too.
  19. Yesterday, as I was gassing up the 02 at a Shell station in Cedarville, OH, a guy came over to admire the car. He was a military vet and had some sort of vet fund raising booth set up to the side of the station. He'd been sent to Germany years ago and had fond memories of driving a BMW 323 while on duty there. Also bumped into a guy who used to own a '76 2002, but his memory must be off; he said that he bought it for $1200. (purchased very USED?)
  20. All set to go. Oil changed, gassed up, recently cleaned idle jet! (snug battery cable connections!) I will be leading the caravan this time since Mike Self has something urgent to attend to on the home front.
  21. During my ownership of a 1987 325 eta, I replaced the seat bottom on the driver's seat. To do that, I bought an entire passenger seat to scavenge and use part of it for the project. So, what is left is the seat back and the head rest. I don't need them, so they are free to someone else who can use them. I will be attending Vintage and MidAmerica 02 Fest this year, so it is possible for me to deliver them to either event.
  22. Meet at my house (3840 Robertann Drive, Kettering, OH 45420) at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 17th. We will take off on a Self-led drive through Greene County, including several covered bridges. We will return to my backyard for a cookout. BYOB (alcohol). We will provide the rest. If you wish to bring something, that is fine, of course. (but you don't need to)
  23. "The BMW 2002 US VIN 2588760 was manufactured on February 20th, 1973 and delivered on February 28th, 1973 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Sahara, paint code 006." Obviously, I have had a lot of fun with this 02 since purchasing it during the summer of 2017. Thank you, Andrew Ganz, for selling me this ultimate driving machine. It's come a long way since it was sold new in Austin, TX.
