  1. What tools do you use to unscrew the ring that holds the front strut cartridge in place? I see it has 2 holes for a pin-type wrench but hell if I go out and buy something like that. Has to be an easier way - if not I'm going to wrap a rag aound it and use my chain wrench
  2. Actually baseball is important to anyone who has to work in their garage for hours on a Sunday afternoon. The game actually helps my ADD brain focus more on what I'm doing and it keeps good company. When I hear of a great play I run into the house to see it on replay and get another glass of water. I sometimes watch games like Yankees-Sox but I not often because I can always think of better things to do.
  3. Check out Top End Performance - lots of goodies there as well
  4. A worthy contestant for next COTM
  5. If they're rustless Cali cars why not bring them to the EC and sell here? Might be worth more.
  6. Boy are you ever going to get a flood of emails on this. 1. At some price (i'm thinking less than $4k) if it passes inspection and you don't intend to ever have to prove it's true provenance it looks like a snappy driver. 2. The stamped VIN is sketchy all right - contact BMW to get a next-day reply from them like this one that came to me: Dear Mr B******, Thank you for your email. The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2762570 was manufactured on August 10th, 1972 and delivered on August 16th, 1972 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Sahara, paint code 006. We hope this information is helpful for you. Yours sincerely, Andreas Harz ----------------------------------------- Available at BMW Group Classic Phone: +49 89 382 68281 Fax: +49 89 382 24765 mailto: andreas.harz@partner.bmwgroup.com URL: http://www.bmw-grouparchives.com 3) The nose was either replaced or (what I'd suspect) they "cloned" a tii. When you get the answer from BMW you will get the paint code. Check carefully by maybe pulling up the carpet someplace or peeling off the handbrake boot and see what color it originally was and if the 2 don't match then voila there you are. 4) The VIN number appears in 3 places: The front body support , the cover over the steering column (easily switched) and the engine, stamped on the flywheel housing where you can see it. No match = clone 5) Check the rear suspension. It should be a boxed (enclosed) suspension and not the 'C' -type beam used on non-tii's. 6) Maybe the nose was hit good and they grafted another nose onto a tii? Again, could be a nice runner and all but be careful not to overpay.
  7. You are correct. There is a black rubber strip seal on the rear edge. I just took mine apart and it looks good and the rubber is still fresh so I'm not changing it. Blunt has all this stuff - check with him what you need. Check out the sunroof thread as well
  8. ... also has the folding mirror option
  9. replica of the Ferrari 250GT Spyder California specially created for the 1986 Paramount hit film ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ is to be sold at Bonhams Collectors’ Motor Cars and Automobilia auction at 11am on 19th April at the RAF Museum, Hendon. Only around one hundred genuine 250GT Spyder California’s were created by Ferrari between 1958 and 1963. Existing examples are very rare and expensive so Paramount chose to commission and build a replica for filming purposes. The film, voted by readers of Total Film magazine the 23rd greatest comedy of all time, follows Ferris and two of his friends skipping high school for a day and borrowing the Spyder California from one of their fathers. A young Matthew Broderick stars as Ferris who fakes illness to miss school, and convinces his girlfriend Sloane and his best friend Cameron to have a day of fun before they head off to their different colleges. The Dean of the school doesn’t believe Ferris’ deception and also becomes embroiled in their adventures. The film, starring this iconic car, was a huge hit (grossing over $70million in the US) and Broderick was nominated for a Golden Globe Award. Styled by Pininfarina, the classic lines of the car combine elegance and aggression, and it ranks alongside the Lusso as the ultimate expression of the Ferrari 250GT family. It was also a highly capable competition machine, as was demonstrated by Ginther/Hively winning their class at the Sebring 12 Hours in March 1958 on their way to finishing 9th overall, and Grossman/Tavano finishing 5th overall at Le Mans in June. The car, estimated in this auction at $45,000-$60,000 is ready to drive, so why not snap it up and have your own “day off.” Other sale highlights include a Concours 1939 SS Jaguar 2½-litre Three-Position Drophead Coupé, 1968 AC 428 Coupé by Frua, a stable of Bentleys which include a 1997 Bentley Continental T, and a 1962 Bentley S3 LWB. Tim Schofield, UK Head of Collectors Motorcars Department comments, “As always we have a varied sale this year, with 60 cars and around 300 lots of automobilia catering for all tastes and pockets
  10. Available from Walloth & Nesch and Heino Stolle, both in Germany. For US don't know.

  12. Jason 3 questions: 1) "no rust" , "runs and drives" OK with you? 2) Got $500 in your budget? 3) Can you get up to New Jersey? Don't listen to those other guys, they don't know how to look for bargains: http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/1675505030.html Let us all know how you get on with this....
  13. ...and change the bumpers? Interesting nonetheless - the owner has some skills for sure: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180490093474&viewitem=#ht_611wt_1165
  14. Maybe it's just me being an old guy, whatever but it never ceases to surprise me when I see a pre-74 resto with flag mirrors. So Blunt sells new traps for $175 and if you are looking at the outside of the car and the body is straight, the paint nice, trim clear, what's another $400 for the correct mirror to make it look right? Either do it right or slap some more spoiler crapola on the nose and trunk and sell it as a resto-mod. The red interior looks really well executed but it's overwhelming. I could see red door panels trimmed in black with the seats centers red and black bolsters but this is nightmarish. Maybe this is why is hasn't found a home in many months.
  15. Best of luck. Email me if you need any tii stuff I may just have it - I know I have that missing door handle...
  16. Please e mail me nychart at hotmail dot com
  17. All I could think of when I 1st saw this was how much pain he had to endure to have that put on in that spot and how much more he'll have when he switches over to ______....
  18. Fishead Looks to me you can fab up a wedge-shaped intemediate piece to go between the stack and the carb body. Hell, why stop there? Go for a right angle and have chrome tips sticking up there like an old time gassser. Thanks to you ordered the kit from Tech yesterday and I will take one of the tii filter bodies and adapt it to accept 4 inlets. Let's see how that works. Can't wait to hear that suck & growl sound coming out of those carbs....very different from the nicely mannered weber!
  19. Geezer Have same problem - can you guide me on how you opened the gas cap to remove the mechanism?
  20. Same here - there was a big outfit in Waterbury Ct called Beckers which has a pretty amazing web site and great price list but is shut. I have a small shop next town over in Danbury Ct "Chemcoat" that is doing good work, have had pedal box, a set of BMW alloys and other stuff done but they can't do the exhaust manifold special hi temp coating.
  21. $22k spent and it looks like that. It's like 'death from a thousand little cuts'.
  22. Fishead You are my hero! I missed your earlier post and link to the Top End kit and will finally be able to use those 40 phh's which have been sitting in the box for 30+ years! I just bought a lower panel with BMW choke & cable off the FAQ for 'someday' and now I will actually be able use it. Thanks
  23. These *&^%$%# 'people' are smarter than the average dog. My daughter is working on Nantucket and needs housing saw an ad in the Cape CL for a house being rented out by an absentee landlord who was doing 'the Lords work' in Nigeria as a missionary and, well, just wanted someone living in the house for $500 a month... What did they do? They took a picture of a real house, in the village which, like most houses in the off-season was empty. So address, status is a match. It was close. She changed her mind only after I called her for the 3rd time to tell her that her "good news" was a scam - while she was on the way to wire 3 months "rent" to that kindly old lady in Nigeria. She also made the mistake of giving her Verizon number to the Nigerian so the calls went on for several days afterwards still looking for the cash. We may be suckers but these people are the scum of the earth. My best friends niece lost a 3 year old Audi to a "certified check" buyer who paid her $2k over blue book and "shared" half the cash on the spot. Some people take them on quite nicely : http://www.419eater.com/
  24. Doesn't sound that way ... More pics and info : http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/cto/1661802216.html NMNA etc
