Assembly required - Ceylon ‘72 tii

This is the year I put my ‘72 tii back together again. A restoration to her original condition (with a couple of goodies).

Received the car last month after painting her back to her original color - Ceylon

Seeing Barney T going through his reassembly with a similar Ceylon car has been a big inspiration. I’ll document my progress here, with questions along the way.

Actually did a lot of the leg work last year:

So now the fun begins!

First up is rear subframe:

This went up fairly quickly and was pretty straightforward. The lift helped a lot.  Torquing the bolts to spec was really satisfying and something I’ve been waiting to do for over a year.

Next up is engine bay electrical. More daunting for me, so will need to take my time there. Luckily things were working pretty well before disassembly… just hope the painters didn’t mess up the harness as they pulled it through the firewall.

Beautiful work, truly.

I'm right there with the rear subframe on my car but it won't be as pretty.

Nice work and an inspiration to us all..

Gonna be too pretty to drive!  I love the attention to detail, including the properly stenciled "S" on the differential case.  Ceylon is a rare color--can't say as I've seen more than a half dozen (if that) in the 40-some years since the color became available...

It must be a sickness--looking at the table full of replated pieces, I realized I can sight recognize almost every part on the table...guess I've spent way too much time messing with 2002s...

When are we gonna see it at an event....this spring/summer?

Hoping to get it all buttoned up by the summer. Will take a look at show schedules, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be driving up to the Saratoga event.

Curious what's your choice of springs and spring pads ( one dot or two dot)?

I’m using stock springs that I cut a loop off with one dot pads. Hoping to match the lowering I will get from a set of upside down  Bilstein struts that I have. These were used on the Alpina cars, I think. They are about an inch lower than the standard tii strut (on the right) and a little beefier. I have a feeling I’ll be doing some trial and error in spring cutting and pad swapping in the back to get the height right once the front suspension goes in.

Looks great! Nice to zoom in and check bolt directions for my current rear suspension reassembly.... Like Jim @jgerock said.. where is the second car?  but understand collecting myself. Also have been told to attach the flex brake lines to the car first to make it easy on yourself, but I am not there yet on mine.

The Oetiger clamps for the CV boots may give you peace of mind (not for picky reasons), since your rehab looks so perfect. https://www.bmw2002faq.com/forums/topic/284046-ear-clamps-for-cv-boots/

Will definitely follow your build.
