Lol! And some post-processing would help too!

Reminds me of an old VP of engineering I used to work with at a startup software company. "Do you want documentation or do you want software?" Documenting takes as much time as doing the work! But it's fun and helps motivate me.

Amen, brother.  Say, don’t you have a juvenile cameraman hanging around the house looking for an allowance?🙇🏼‍♂️

Ah good. The car does have two horns, I bet it's attached to it. I'll look in the bucket to check.

Cold snap here in Austin + had to finish some house stuff. But I did finish the rear brakes.

Starting out, drivers side. I installed the cylinders first. Metalli brand, thats all that was available.

Not sure why I took this photo.

IMG_8830.thumb.jpeg.8f31e07fd1011237a722b8fb52f56e3a.jpeg

Brakes installed! The bottom spring was the most difficult part. I believe it is correct.

Yes, I left the plastic on the new drums. I want to clean and shoot them with high temp clear coat.

I know they won't remain clean/new forever but I do love the look of clean new drums and want to see what I can do.

The car is in the garage but won't always be protected. Why not, I say!

IMG_8841.thumb.jpeg.54fbf5a88f8a61f6e854d0b2b4e6b923.jpeg

Starting passenger side. Crappy bottom spring perch rubber still in place.

IMG_8842.thumb.jpeg.f3c534592c8e4e8f4899691504230adf.jpeg

I believe these are M&N springs but really have no way to tell. They came on the car and the original owner put them on. Anyone can verify? Color?

IMG_8843.thumb.jpeg.95a38cc47afe1424c00c0caf3aa53f32.jpeg

Back in place!

IMG_8844.thumb.jpeg.b32acb2b0f09ace13a8ee62afab4da82.jpeg

I need to:

  • Torque rear subframe to car nuts (101ft lbs).
  • Install fuel pump and new hose
  • Install new fuel line rubber gaskets

Then back to engine compartment. I'm totally procrastinating on digging in there. Not sure why.

I had a set of M&N springs on one of my o2's a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOng time ago.  No identifying marks.  They had I want to say two different types, I had the ones that were super stiff and they dropped my car a lot (like 1.75" maybe a little more).....super low.....

I painted my drums with some high temp paint in a gun bronzy grey and they provide a nice setoff of the rims.  Like, almost a rust patina, but not.  There were several grades of factory springs painted with marks not unlike yours.  Sure they’re not factory?

I think the factory spring paint codes were applied with a brush.

I commented on the orientation of the tension spring a month or two ago, saying it should look like this one, with the hooks towards the back, but then got corrected by people saying it goes the other way, with the spring running between the E-brake arm and the shoe.  I don't remember which way I installed mine.

The RealOEM drawing shows it facing the other way.  I don't know if it matters though.

Not sure at all. I am the second owner and the original owner told me it was M&N swaybars and springs. The swaybars both have the old M&N labels on them but nothing on the springs.

He was a CPA and kept every receipt so if motivated I can see if I can find what was bought. Doesn't have bearing on what is installed but it's a start.

I recommend Eastwood caliper paint (black) for the drums and their silver for the front calipers.

I'll take a look! Not sure if I want to go black or silver on the rear drums. My first thought is silver but black would hide the dirt for sure. ty!

You mean the top spring, right? Not the funky bent wire spring on the bottom.

I installed the spring "hooks inward" b/c I didn't see how the hook would clear the moving arm if it was oriented to allow the hooks to face outward.

There is supposed to be a gap between the e-brake lever arm and the shoe, so the spring can run between them.  Apparently, some replacement shoes don't have that gap.  Here's the recent thread on the topic.

Super interesting, missed this thread, thank you.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
