Three 10mm bolts to remove the fuel pump. They came out easily, but I need to order new ones. Thankfully these are only $26 each. No joke.

If you are talking about the rubber absorber/mounts, here is a great (and MUCH cheaper) alternative (don't let the name fool you, they are small, just like the original ones):

And there isn't anything special about the 10mm (M6?) bolts at $26, right?

They look like just rubber vibration dampers, should be the same, I think. At $4 each it's worth a try.

I'll still probably shell out the $32 each for the three pieces of foam for the gas line though. Doh!

Measured the fuel pump bushing/mounts, they are 15mm

Fuel pump needs cleaning too + new fuel line.

Here is a shot of the undercarriage. Still has some grease, I'll hit it some more.

Didn't get a chance to work on it this evening. Tomorrow for sure, bushings arrived in the mail today!

Your new ones should be the exact same measurement. I think the only difference is the threaded studs are a little shorter than on the new bushings.

Some rear subframe work with weekend. I forgot how much time it takes to remove bolts, clean them and degrease the area. Kept finding new areas with greasy dirt. Caked on greasy dirt. Scrape, wipe, scrub, spray and repeat..

Top of rear spring perch had some surface rust and a bit of pitting. Nothing serious but enough to clean, ospho and topcoat.

Started pressing the new poly bushings in. I had installed poly bushings in 2 decades ago. They were actually crumbly in some areas which surprised me.

So, it's basically the same as it was last week, only cleaner and with bolts/nuts in place, and poly bushings where I can. Hasn't been installed to the body. My plan for the weekend was to have it on wheels already.

I'm a visual person so I made this diagram to help out. Based on the faq torque page. I'll be honest, the descriptions on those pages aren't always easy to align with that I see. So, I took what made sense, added the bolt size. Maybe it helps someone else too.

Did zero on the car today, unfortunately. Some random shots from weekend.

Cleaning bolts...

IMG_8691.thumb.jpeg.c28755ef8d11b3d2adbe9e87bf1fe96a.jpeg

Pressing out the semi-trailing arm bushings.

IMG_8695.thumb.jpeg.34a970e278f390ddfb353d36d1723075.jpeg

Cleaning differential carrier.

IMG_8692.thumb.jpeg.9dcde6a1d65f213b5dd83f8dde16e939.jpeg

Ospho on the spring perch. I let it sit and keep adding to it for 15min. I then thoroughly wash it off and dry it quickly, often using a leaf blower 😀. Then 1K primer and paint. I'll snap a photo of it with satin black top cover.

I need to move it to high gear. Next steps are reinstall the rear suspension. Need to finish the rear suspension rebuild first, mostly torqueing everything down.

Remember, a lot of that isn't torqued down until the car is on the ground, with a full tank of gas and some fat guys in the front seats.

With oem rubber true but using urethane bushings it doesn't make a difference.

I see you are going to reinstall the rear suspension prior to body and paintwork. Hope the chosen shop protects that/those areas from overspray.  Redoing things isn’t fun.

Good call. I may take it out again when ready for paint.

At the moment I just want to 1. Get it rebuilt 2. Get it out of the way 3. Enable the car to roll around (I'll add the wheel dollys under the tires).

Once it's mobile again (this weekend!) I am hitting engine bay full time.

Still possible to hit my laughably short time frame.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
