50 years of ownership for my parent’s Tii

My parents and I took their Tii out for a cruise and to visit a few places today, the day that marks fifty years since they bought the car new from Weatherford BMW when they were at 2036 Blake St, Berkeley California. They were car shopping and this day, February 5th 1972, they went to their local BMW dealer and saw this Tii on the showroom floor. It’s been many things through the decades, but most of all, the family sports sedan that it’s designed to be.

And here's me who thought the NKs were the family car and the 02s were for the kids.

I stand corrected. Beautiful car!

We had an 1800TI in the eighties, but this, the Tii was our goto roadtrip car.

Very cool, Tom.  I think at that time, we had a Country Squire wagon and a Vega GT.

The Vega GT is cool! Engine probably didn’t last very long though.

Congratulations on yet another one family '02.  You had young and adventurous parents to buy a tii, much less a Colorado one.

My Dad bought my Mom a two year old 55 Cadillac Fleetwood that was painted "Pacific Coral" (kinda UT burnt orange) at auction at a good price because of the color.  My Mom stood the color for less than a year and made my Dad repaint it baby blue...

BTW, what are those wheels?  They look like the factory alloys, but seem a bit different...Campys?

Pretty awesome you guys got a spot right out front! Would be cool to see some period pics of the Weatherford on Blake St.   I had a pair of door handles re-keyed to match my replaced ignition switch nearby on University Ave and had my windshield replaced at Frank's (NLA). I spent a lot of time in Berzerkely when I was younger!!!

Very nice tii, those wheels are sweet.

I'm in Oakland, my father bought our 1974 2002 from the original owner in 1980. He daily drove for 10 years then stashed it away until I brought it back to life in 2017. Whenever me and my father take it for a drive it puts smiles on our faces and brings back fond memories.

Weatherford BMW isn't what it used to be, it was bought by a dealership group. If you want real service for your older BMW your better of going across the street to Moran Motorsports.

Of course...I never tried Moran's. I guess H&B isn't what it used to be and assume Beck's by Lake Merritt is done? I lived in Oaktown for a few years in the mid-oughts, took my car to Bavarian Motor Works once and had a HORRIBLE experience. They said my brakes were done and I had to have them service them otherwise I had to have the car towed away!!! I had it towed away and took it to Ralph Hoch at Import Specialties in Walnut Creek - someone I've known for over 30 years now - the best, most honest, trustworthy and knowledgeable logically troubleshooting mechanic I've ever met - he said the master was a little rusty from being around the salty air but it was fine! He offered to back me up with a complaint to the BBB!  When I had him rebuild the heads on my 67 Beetle in '92, and was ready to take it down to SLO for college, he taught me how to adjust the valves on HIS '71 Type 2 Westfalia, so I could do it myself after 500 miles! Over the years he's owned a Colorado orange 1600 and I think he's been driving a Vanagon Westfalia. I can't recommend Ralph enough if you're in the Bay Area.

Cromodora CD-40, 13x6 et15. They’ve been on the car with 205/60-13s for the most part since they were bought new in ‘78. They replaced the out of round Shelby Cal-500s that the car had when new.

The slot mags are cool.  Part of the cool is that they don’t totally jibe with the car.  They are a little off kilter for an 02, but they look great, so there you are.

The current wheels manage to be both great looking and rarely seen.
