My first Upstate NY 1971 2002 had some rust repairs by previous owners, fiberglass front fenders, and flairs only on the rear.  General motors brown. This pic is from 1981 in Plattsburgh NY. Here is my 2002tii pictured about 20 years ago with the third owner in Florida. It was delivered to Italy new in April of 1971, imported to Virginia by a Navy officer who sold it to gentleman that worked at NASA (spoke to him, cannot recall the year off the top of my head), and then sold via Roundel in June of 1998 to a guy in Florida. I was able to obtain the 1971 Florida license plates pictured here, cool that they match the color of the car.

FYI your license plate is from Hendry county (south of lake Okeechobee, LaBelle is the county seat).  The 49 is the county's number in Florida's 1938-75 licence plate numbering scheme; the "D" indicates a passenger car weighing less than 2500 lbs, so it's the proper plate for your car.  Good score!

We can talk about the BMWs later. How do I get a time machine to buy that '63 Cobra with 3,300 miles for only $4,200? ($36,847 adjusted for inflation) From the original owner nonetheless.

In that case, can I interest you in not 1 but 3 300SLs?

Interestingly enough, just as they were in the late 60s, the 300SL and the Cobra (at least the 427 version) are valued similarly today.  The Mercedes is a mechanical exotic while the Cobra is a brute.  Both are iconic.    A friend of mine has a 427 Cobra that he bought used around 1971 for something like $5K.  Still has it.

Heck, I'd take the Fiat 600 Jolly for $1795!  They're bringing over $80k today.  Really...

I love looking back at some of the cruises we had - these shots are from 2006 around the Yarra Valley region (I think a couple of shots are mine and a couple were TMK001).

Great bunch of '02ers - most of these cars are still on the road today. Sadly a couple lost to accidents.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
