In “Project Binky” fashion, we broke out the CAD system and made a bracket… This car was not a Tii, but I wanted to use a Tii airbox. I had an Alpina bracket for twin sidedraft airbox, we used that for the idea and came up with this.

Works great. This car still has a standard brake booster and the box is snug, but I think some hard, closed foam will pad it just fine. I also had to remove the standard battery and tray. I installed an AGM battery down against the frame rail.

It’s very solid. It’ll get get the edges ground smooth and we’ll paint it and the box with some Eastwood’s epoxy spray paint.

Thanks again for all the help, Barney.

Decided to start tackling my scratched up bumpers.

Orbital sander 300,400, 600, 800 grit.

Hand wet sanded with 1000 grit.

Polisher with three levels of McGuires.

Still work to do but starting to look solid.

I’ve been slacking off due to rehabbing a condo. Now it’s time to get shit done. I took out the drive shaft which looked surprisingly pretty good and then I removed the engine and transmission. Wasn’t as smooth as I expected and I had some mess to clean up but it’s done. Next up is building a simple rotisserie.IMG_9503.thumb.jpeg.47274e15799a3ae40ce32ba53ac64a10.jpegIMG_9502.thumb.jpeg.f1aac471a1c58e0360ab351b4ae40586.jpeg

Speaking of slacking off, @jimk @irdave and I had root beer at A&W today.

In addition to discussing all things injected, we covered all things carbureted and I got plenty of techniques and suggestions for dialing in my newly running ‘72.

(The truck in the picture was parked perilously close to my car.)

Love seeing updates on your build.

What’s the story with the frame welded in above the floor pan?

I have aluminum floor boards that mount on them to raise the heels up a bit for the hanging pedals.

Upholstery work continues. The headliner and pillar covers are in, and last weekend I finished the dash. It was a bit of a cluster since I paid somebody to cover it, but they shit their pants and everything below the tray was crap. Glovebox and climate controls didn’t fit and it didn’t look great. I only paid half, then I reworked the whole area and am happy with the result.

This weekend I started on the armrests. I’m still learning to sew, so this is the first French seam I’ve ever done.

I covered the rears first because they’re easier and I’d like to learn on something I’ll see less of. The end result was very promising.

Then it was the drivers door, which is much more complicated. The seam is curved, which is a pain I learned.

Frenching it was hard, but I did okay. I also laid two stitch lines where the cover will meet itself. The plan was to butt trim the vinyl at that seam and do a steering wheel style hand stitch to close it up.

So much careful stretching and glueing, but I got there eventually.

It’s not perfect, but I’m actually really happy with the result. Considering I didn’t know what I was doing, I’m proud of my work. Next up is the passenger handle, most complicated of them all. Then custom door skins, then custom carpet kit, then custom back seat…

The good news is I’ll probably be really good at sewing by the end of all of this. 😂🤦‍♂️
