Volage Regulator Question

Hi all,

I have a question regarding a small box that is tied to the voltage regulator in my '72 tii. This box is connected to the voltage reg via a short harness with a 3-prong connector. The 3-prong connector from the main harness to the alternator plugs into the smaller box. I'm wondering its function and if it can be eliminated.

Any ideas? Pic included below...

Thanks,

Jeff

...hmmm- that doesn't look familiar in the VR circuit.

It DOES look like a relay.  How many connections?

If it has only 2, I'd suspect it of being a cap (for noise reduction) or resistor (for nefarious purposes)

Never seen that set up either but as Toby says noise reduction for the radio would be my first guess, I would think it was added in parallel at some point and you could bypass it but be aware that is only a guess and not based on any actual knowledge other than I have never seen a vr in 2 stages on any car I can remember

One other thought are the 3 prongs the same on the box as on the vr.

Can you get a better look at the wiring?  I've never seen the wires extended by the factory- see if you can figure

out if the 'added' jumper was crimped into the factory regulator plug...

Sure I will get some better pics and post them. It may very will be some sort of noise suppressor in line. It looks absolutely factory with no crimping and even a net around the short harness.

@Son of Marty - The prong are identical to the VR.

Thanks all.

I've seen US relays with that same three prong socket...does your car have A/C?  The A/C relay on my Frigiking unit looks very much like that, but it's mounted on the exhaust side of the engine.  Just a guess.  I've not seen that kind of setup before either...
