Center Console Face Ideas

Utah02

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Just out of curiosity, what have you guys done for an aftermarket stereo in the center console. The last owner cut speaker holes so I'm going to put speakers there but I need ideas on how to put my stereo in the center console. Vinyl wrapped wood with a cut out for it? Post pics!

Thanks

I rebuilt my console…Nakamichi stereo, VDO gauges, e36 cubby hole and clock.  Rewrapped sides in new vinyl and the face and shifter surround done in gloss black vinyl wrap.

Great blog post! That helped a ton on the face plate idea! Are gauges worth it?

So you're driving without the lower steering column panel, jr? Me, too. I don't like the trunk'n'tank keys scratching on it.

The actual track, matching pretty to the car's year:

Yeah, post pics of your center console!

Le Tran suggested I just fab something up, I used the 1 part my car had and ran with it, I also added a double USB charger in the dummy switch hole for phone and iPad ($7.49):

Not sure if Parker Performance is up and running. Numerous attempts resulting in me fabbing my own console and sourcing  VDO gauge adaptions.

I think that they were away temporarilly but I just bought a custom panel from them within the last month.

I built this one for my car. I really like the gauges, gives me a good sense of what's happening with my engine and other systems. I chose a 150psi oil gauge, volt meter, and oil temp gauge for my car since these are all gauges a 2002 does not come with. I also have a wideband to facilitate better tuning. Mine is plywood that I rattle bombed with a can of Rustoleum Hammer-Tone then sprayed black over it. Looks really nice! I really need to get a good picture of it in the car....

Work in progress...

Dockable iPad and a hidden speaker enclosure using the space between the heater box and console.

Using an iPad mini or even an iPhone might give a little more space for other items...

I keep going back on forth on whether I love or hate this idea. If I were to do it I would use a 7" android (or ipad mini...but no), I think I am on the fence enough not to make the effort. I am not a purist but the tablet may just be a bridge to far. Could solve many other problems though.

is your face fitted to a long or short console....do you have any pics of it in the car...reason i ask, it looks wider than the original and i'm curious how it fits if you're running a long console with a shift surround
