  1. this is a unique design. Easy to make. Hadn't seen it before. https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1585081-FS-Camshaft-removal-tool
  2. So the coolant jackets on 02's are notorious for corroding. You'll see the coolant elbow off the front of the head also suffer the same fate. Once they start corroding, if you take a dental pick, you can pick chunks of the head out. It requires a significant amount of material removal to assure a good weld. I've welded up a couple and you won't know until you put in the labor. The reason the shop is hesitant is because they don't want to spend the time on it.. grind into the head and find nothing but contaminated metal and then have unbillable time. They'd rather you find another head. I would recommend taking that rusty head and trying to get it blasted before taking it apart. Fighting against the rust on disassembly will just make the rocker shafts and spring/valve removal difficult at best.
  3. I think that guy lives in southside... seen it around US1 avenues area a couple of times..
  4. You keep saying reaming which is usually related to the guide. You're talking about throat blending or cutting. That step is shown here. The problem is port work is usually required to take advantage of the valve being larger and throat being cut out. A 121 and 121ti head will not support a +1 valve without new seats cut in. a e12 and e21 head will support a +1 valve due to larger seat installed factory.
  5. Can you either post or send me a picture of everything out of the box. The phrase, "Don't know if any pieces are missing" and no pictures of the pieces gives me pause. Interested.
  6. Since it's in aluminum. Take a steel nut, use a mig welder and start welding out. Weld steel nut onto new weld shaft. Would I do this with the head on the car? No. Your extractor though is not going to allow you to drill straight on for a heli coil repair though.
  7. This is a factory exhaust manifold for mounting turbo's to BMW M10 engines. This one is low miles. Great shape. All flanges are flat and true. No cracks. I had it sandblasted and checked at a local shop. No broken bolts on the heat shield bosses. It's my spare and I no longer need it. There's not many of these 45 year old manifolds in good condition still around. Get a good one while you can. Buyer to pay PayPal fees and actual UPS shipping.
  8. These are factory mahle 121 bathtub pistons. 10:1 ti pistons. 1mm oversize. They retail for about $135 each. Includes Rings, Wristpins and retainers. I took them out of the box for pictures but that's it. I got a good deal on some Ross Forged and need to sell these to get the long rods for my build. Only one set at this price. Will take PayPal. Buyer pays actual UPS shipping and any PayPal fees.
  9. Hard to swallow pills. Most 02's are slow... A lot are broke.. There's nothing wrong with that but don't lie to yourself. If I hear you say "I'll catch / pass them in the twisties". I immediately assume your car is slow and you never did catch them. Bolt ons do very little. 02 guy puts on header, weber 40's and abarth exhaust, those are some nice community approved modifications. Miata puts cold air intake, header and loud exhaust. Must be ricer. Don't kid yourself. ///M stands for marketing. The nostalgia for this car is fixed and not expanding. It will never be on par with a classic 911.
  10. Paint the gasket with this. Apply. Done. https://www.amazon.com/Permatex-80019-Aviation-Gasket-Sealant/dp/B000HBM3QQ/ref=asc_df_B000HBM3QQ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=241895017383&hvpos=1o4&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10874113154183510031&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9011449&hvtargid=pla-492732657309&psc=1
  11. $400 cash in hand take em with whatever rod length they have.
  12. 1500 for a bell housing is gonna be a tough pill to swallow..
  13. goodson will have your valve top cutter but I'm with Toby.. for the price of the cutter you could buy the installation tool to air hammer in new guides and prob some guides. Yeah sure you'll need to get the seats recut but really don't go cheap.
  14. This is what Sir Mix-A-Lot was talking about all those years ago
  15. I don't believe in the rules they were allowed to utilize the twin cam heads of schnitzer. It had to be a production based engine. IIRC.
  16. If we all listened to toby, we'd be fast and poor. It does make a better sound though... so much louder and we all know louder is faster... ask any 600cc super bike street pilot. In all do respect though if you look at the converging and flip it around (make it diverging), Porsche actually use a diverging intake manifold runners on newer 911 turbos to cause the air charge to cool due to change in pressure and increase in velocity about 6" prior to port entry. They claim it's better for the turbo cars by generating a few degrees of reduction in IAT. Not sure I buy it. But people have been playing with intakes and slide rulers for a long time now.
  17. It looks like a hard face welded camshaft that was not chamfered and cleaned up when they welded it. That's the overhang. The grind marks and the abnormal lobe profile also agree with this.
  18. I've got a factory turbo manifold that I could part with. Hard to call that junk
  19. IMHO 2618 should not be used in street car applications. 4032 works fine for street/competition. 2618 is a stronger better choice but only when we prefer strength over longevity and can hold tighter than normal operational temperatures. I used to hot hone blocks receiving 2618 slugs. Mahle has been producing their own custom blend of 4032 called M142 which pushes the competitive edge even further and brings 4032 expansion but malleability of 2618. I mean if you wanted to get fancy, you could get them to make a set of race pistons but I think they run about $200 a hole with a min order of 8. https://patents.google.com/patent/US20080245335A1/en
  20. The 121ti bathtub pistons are now back in new production with Mahle. I keep a couple of sets of 1mm oversize pistons with rings in stock for about $525 a set. The quality on them is even better than the old pistons.
  21. will buy an early kidney grill 3d print if you make it
  22. "I don't remember what I have in there" It takes 5 minutes to look. Pop off the hats and get in there with a flat blade. Altitude, season, heat and timing all affect jetting. You need to know Accelerator pumps Idle Jets Mains Airs Emulsion tubes Chokes 45 idles 125-135 mains 200 airs with 32mm chokes is a good start for a 9.5:1 street motor with a cam A set of jets will run you about $50 so it pays to know what you have
