  1. Sometime in the last few weeks I have found that I can’t get through the cookie acceptance popup to change the settings. I click on the, change cookie settings, link and the allow cookies popup covers the choices. I, REALLY, liked the previous cookie choice popup.
  2. @TobyB Yes, only for long bumper, Model 71. The earlier short bumper ‘02s indeed had no schutz on the lower quarter panels, nor tail panel. And, there were other variations to the schutz in other areas of short bumper’02s as well, but this isn’t the thread to lay out all those changes.
  3. The schutz from the lower quarter panel ended at the seam for tae tail panel on round light cars too. It did not originally extend across the tail panel below the bumper.
  4. My next question is, are you sure the axle angle is the same in both photos? The fluid level could look very different if the axle is at a different level. That said, I wouldn’t worry about it unless it starts leaking.

  6. I in no way want to put this on you, but did you ask the shop if they have the capability of measuring and dispensing a metric volume like that? Many shops do not have easy access to metric volume measuring and dispensing devices. Did you tell them it is also 6.08 ounces? I have a few syringes for removing and dispensing fluids such as brake fluid and oils, but most do not. I use ones similar to these. A standard metric silicone vacuum hose threads right on the end as well as the supplied clear hose. 200ml Luer Lock Syringe with 40 inch Tube and 18Ga 20Ga Needle (2 Pack 200ml/cc Luer Lock) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083GPD3NB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_WCQJ3G8BP6HMREFW5WZ4
  7. I’ve used 19L batteries in the past, and would look hard and long for an AGM in that size rather than get an Optima. I tried an Optima in the past and just didn’t like how I would need to modify the tray and build a custom hold down due to the narrow long shape of them. Unless, there’s a different, more like the footprint of the 19L, shaped Optima available. If I couldn’t find an AGM 19L I would get a Deka. https://smtp.xanderdev.com/index-deka.html
  8. Bill @alfagta, Hopefully you’re coming to the track during Car Week as well. As I took a job at a Porsche vintage race shop last year, so will be supporting a few cars at the track and won’t likely make it out to LoTA this year. If anyone does make it to the track, come find me with these.
  9. If you look at the bid history, the high final price had very little to do with the value of the car and everything to do with two bidders that went back and forth, again and again because one, the other or both wanted a Mint Grün square light 2002 in mostly original condition. Something triggered both of them. The sale price of this car has very little to do with nearly any other ‘02 for sale now or in the near future, unless, the loosing bidder finds a comparable car that sparks their interest again. That said, if anyone has a super clean Mint Grün squarie, they’d be willing to part with, they’d best track that loosing bidder down.
  10. Fingers crossed @jmon0261gets good money for it, he deserves it for sure!
  11. Does anyone know if there’s going to be any sort of BMW Corral at the Historics this year? Or in leu of an official BMW Club Corral, how to purchase preferred parking passes for the turn 5 area?
  12. While I don’t have any direct experience with gear oil in the TiSA Colotti 5 speed, I do have experience with other Porsche style synchro gearboxes like the regular early 1600/2002 and Porsche 356 and 911, and thus recommend either SWEPCO 201 or Redline 75/90NS with a lean towards the SWEPCO. Many, many Porsche folks swear by the SWEPCO and have for many decades. If you would like to find SWEPCO 201 locally rather than ordering it online, any shop, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes, VW… that has an SSF account, can get it for you. I would use it in both that trans and the differential, especially if it’s a limited slip. I can only guess that the diff in your car is a limited slip, at least 40% and possibly a real 75%. ? https://www.swepcolube.com/products/swepco-201-multi-purpose-gear-lube https://www.redlineoil.com/75w90-ns-gl-5-gear-oil https://porsche356registry.org/archive/503
  13. Most times you can see some of the original color inside and above the glovebox.

  15. The Behr air conditioning installation manual is available in pdf form on the 2002tii.org website. If I recall correctly, it has the freon charge amount in the instructions. And remember, if yyou are going to use R134 instead of R12 you only fill the system with 80% r134 than the listed r12 amount. https://www.2002tii.org/the-behr-air-conditioning-system/
  16. A bunch of great period 1800TI photos are available in the Petersen Publishing Archive. After clicking on the link, click on the little person icon and do a simple search for 1800ti in here: https://archive.petersen.org
  17. I see these and imagine photos that I would, love, to find one day; 1800TI/SA at the 1965 San Francisco Imported Car Show. ?

  19. The part numbers for the caliper halves would indeed be the same as Tii, it’s the spacers in between that make the difference. On this page, the complete calipers are item number 1 and clicking on the little I info button, they show they are not the same as 2002tii, but are the same as E3, E9, E12 and E24 calipers for vented brakes. http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/114-Sedan/Europe/2002turbo-M10/browse/brakes/brake_disc_caliper_mounting_parts_front/ In a second reply, I’ll share the link of the Info button…

Thank you for adding it to the 2002FAQ Registry Sean! So cool that it’s a “71”! The first 422 US Tiis were built before Jan 1st ‘72.

My parents owned this ‘67 1600-2 in the eighties in the San Francisco Bay Area. They autocrossed it with the BMWCCA, we took it on trips, strapped plywood to the roof to bring home from the lumber yard. And, it was one of the first cars I ever drove. We sold it in the early nineties to a friend in Hayward. It was somewhat rusty and was a faded metallic blue when we had it, but it was a ‘67 1600 with a sunroof, so cool and rare. I last saw it in eBay from somewhere back east, like Virginia or North Carolina, I can’t recall… I believe it was somewhere around 2005. The car was in primer then and toted as a California car, which it wasn’t. The California license plate it had when we owned it was 656 LTY, a mid seventies blue and yellow California plate. The original 1600 engine is long gone. It broke a couple of piston rings and my dad replaced it with a 2-Liter from a junk yard that had flat top pistons. It did not have the Borrani wheels on it when we sold it, we kept those.
