  1. There, are, those who say the apocalypse is coming....
  2. @danco_ Sorry if I was confusing. I was answering a slightly off topic question from @NYNick. I was not referring to the deposit refund request topic of @conkitchen.
  3. @NYNick Price negotiation generally starts AFTER the PPI. And, whom ever is the purchaser of the PPI is the one who get to see the report unless they decide to share. The shop or person performing the PPI does NOT get hovered over by the seller or whom ever was not the purchaser of the PPI. It’s like client privilege. At least that’s the way it is in California.
  4. I have seen in my past a Model-71 In Bristol. It was a European import late ‘71 2002.
  5. Coolant temp on its own isn’t what’s most important, it’s oil temp. There are many articles in the subject, here’s but one. http://www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/2011/05/keep-your-engine-alive-the-importance-of-oil-temperature/
  6. The closest battery commonly available to fit the 2002tii and 2002turbo is the Group 26. Yet, while the dimensions and posts are in the right places, the base and its feet are not and the original hold down does not work. Importing proper batteries from Europe is out of the question as the US government doesn’t allow them unless they come attached to cars. I’ve even tried to organize a group buy of dry (fill with acid when they get here) with no luck or interest on either end. There are but three battery manufacturers that supply the US. They’re Johnson Controls, Exide and Deka. None of the three make a proper battery for our cars, and hold a monopoly on the market. The second generation new MINIs, R56 chassis, comes with a perfect battery, but the replacement is a larger Group 47. One positive though, are independent battery companies, of which fewer and fewer still exist. These are mostly manufactures of marine batteries, since boats are usually much older than cars and have some very custom battery size requirements. One local to the San Francisco Bay Area that I have seen a perfect replacement MINI battery is Arc Battery Co in Sausalito. I haven’t had the opportunity to call on them to make a battery for a customer Tii, yet. Another option is the one my father and I found for his Tii. A factory Mercedes front starter battery for an ‘08 CL500 auch as this Interstate MTP-V4. The V4 is not as tall, and s little shorter on the one end of the hold down. Yes fitment isn’t prefect, but it’s close enough without the effort of tracking down anything else. A 2002 or E21 hold down fits well. I have not tried the original Tii hold down. https://www.interstatebatteries.com/products/mtp-v4 Hope This Helps, Tom
  7. @JimVO Yes, the profile of NK and ‘02 bumpers are the same, but NKs never used the short bumper guards as delivered from BMW, US or Euro. NK bumpers were the same whether US or Euro and always had the tall bumper guards and bumpers through all years of production.
  8. @JimVO Those are for pre ‘71 Euro ‘02s. As far as I know all NKs had the upright bumper guards, whether Euro or US.
  9. @Conserv Wink indeed as to how a BMW could make it to the US and be sold without a VIN on the dash/steering column, in late ‘71 to early ‘72. ?
  10. That’s GREAT news @jireland2002! I’m sure you’ll keep us updated.
  11. @Gordon E21s had them on the dash. I believe it was only the E3, E9, NK and ‘02s that had them on the upper steering column.
  12. With this info I would gather that the US DOT required the dash visible VINs for the ‘69 model year and BMW as usual of the time was a little slow to get the ball rolling, but was all in by mid January. With this info I’ll look up the DOT side of things and report back. Edit, that was easy... Having the 1969 date was key to find the correct info. ” A move to create a more systematic VIN scheme was made in 1968, with the enactment of Federal motor vehicle safety standard (FMVSS) No. 115, which took effect January 1, 1969. That standard required each passenger car to have a VIN that is permanently “sunk or embossed” on a part of the vehicle visible through the glazing by a person standing at the left windshield pillar. Manufacturers were required to avoid having a VIN be repeated within a 10-year period.” https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2008/04/30/08-1197/vehicle-identification-number-requirements
  13. What year did the US BMW get dash steering column VIN tags?
  14. Following to hear more about LHD quick ratio availability.
  15. Lipstick red. Overspray on suspension parts. Photos suck.Wrong tire size (175/70). Tires are cracking, no age listed, though they are proud of the tread depth. J hook missing from at least the right grille. Kidney grille upside down. Rarely is the mileage listed right with our 5 digit odometers... rear roundel is incorrect, size for hood .... Why bother with the link to enlarge photos if they only get smaller? They could learn A LOT from looking at the quality of the photos and website here: https://www.vegasmusclecars.com/1963-chrysler-300j--c-1639.htm
  16. Anyone interested in purchasing can do so through the PR DesignSF website now. https://prdesignsf.com/shop?olsPage=products%2F02-door-brake-bracket-repair-kit&page=2
  17. Yes, adjusting the hood is another way. ?
  18. If you need the door closer or further away from the car, you can add or remove shims from between the door and hinge. If you need to adjust the door up, down or closer or further from the B-pillar, pick a bolt you want to pivot the door on and don't loosen that one nearly as much as the others. Then pick another bolt and make a different adjustment. Always hold the majority of the weight of the door with a padded floor jack and at least one bolt.
  19. Awesome Mike! Maybe make a trip out to Marin County CA for Ludwig's 50th in a couple of years.
  20. The correct 14" 65 series tire size for '02s is 185/65-14. If you want a 175, you're looking for a 175/70-14...
  21. Thank you @HBChris, that's exactly what I I hope to find. And, you know exactly why and what I want it for. ?
