"Driven" lube?  It is slightly thick, oil-soluble ass (embly) lube and came with the cam.

If the cam grinder wants you to use it, do.

The entire tube.

On the cam.

Also, a high- ZDDP oil (flat tappet break- in oil) too.

t

learnt that one the hard way.

M10 Rebuild Part 12

Installed an oil pan baffle for the M10 rebuild.  In case anyone is wondering...(i) the near edge of the baffle is not sitting on the rim of the pan (as it appears) but rather ~1/2" below the rim and (ii) none of the welds distorted the pan.

I await hearing from the machinist re: status of head surfacing and block decking.  Then, hopefully, begin assembly at his shop so he can look over my shoulders and provide well-deserved slapping coordinated with the timing of my errors.

M10 Rebuild Part 13

Rebuilt the Weber 32/36 that came with the project engine.  Pretty straight forward; however, rebuilding required more than just a rebuild kit (from alfa1750):  new water choke chamber, power valve, special washers, and other worn do-dads.  Not settled yet on water or manual choke.  When the block and head are finished, I will try, for educational purposes, the 32/36 (with SyncLink) > see how that performs > then a 38/38 > see how that performs > then, maybe, a couple of 40's.  Will be interesting to determine which carb combo plays best with a slightly larger bore (91 mm), 10 CR, custom pistons, 292 cam, little lighter fly wheel, and header.

M10 Rebuild Part 13

tii Distributor rebuilt by Advanced Distributors has come home.

Machinist has blasted, fluxed, rebored, and bushed the original rods, decked the block, and is starting to grind the head (yep, the cam gear cover is attached).

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
