What's a good color to paint a car for resale?

I generally prefer the "original" color.  What was the original?

 

Unless you are painting car inside and out (100% complete respray) the next owner will be left with a multi-color car (trunk, engine, etc.) that may look fine but will always require an explanation and in my opinion reduces the value.

 

However, if you are looking at popular colors for a flared squarelight 02, then follow the turbo crowd and go polaris (silver), white, or schwartz (black).

Same here, back to Sahara if feasible.   Of course I am partial to Granada.

The biggest thing is going to be is the car all one color?  Black is impressive but the $$$$ you will spend to make it look good will probably not be a good return on investment.  Like Jason said if you are not going to paint the jams, engine bay and trunk it will hurt the value A LOT.  

 

I am assuming you are going to go small bumpers, remove the lower trim, maybe even the side marker lamps? Bright belt and drip rail moldings?  Front bumper or Turbo air dam?

 

IS THAT A YELLOW DASH??? 

 

If you are going with the Turbo fenders and air dam I sure wouldn't paint it Sahara,  Navada, or Bristol.  With all that bodywork it's not an original car any longer so original color makes no difference.  The quality of the paint and bodywork will be the biggest deal.

It doesn't seem like there's really that much correlation between paint color and selling price, if you did a statistical analysis I don't think it would have a significant impact. The condition and mods seems to carry all the weight for normal 2002s.

 

But I will say, I don't really remember ever seeing an inka car's selling price and thinking, that guy got a good deal. But I have seen siennabraun, malaga, etc cars that I thought oh that was a good deal.

 

I'd guess top 5 in no particular order, inka, colorado, fjord, mintgrun, taiga.

 

Also if it was a modded car, with a motor to match the flares, I feel like a black car could do well, it might appeal to the e30 m3, e28 m5 crowd.

there is nothing macho about a 2002. “That’s a cute car” is the number two thing I hear from people anywhere I stop. 
 

I vote Inka for resale but prefer turkis personally.

Oddly, there are a lot of Inkas and Colorado's in the PNW. I vote for something rare like Tiaga or Turkis, or unique to 70's BMWs like Golf. 

 

Or, since this is a resto-mod and not trying to be original, go with a popular euro color like Laguna Seca Blue or Porsche Viper Green.
