Folks... feast your eyes, for you will not likely see another.

Hardy & Beck-Modified 1973 BMW 2002tii 5-Speed

Stage 3 modified by Hardy&Beck

I've had the pleasure of being around this car many times at our local Austin meets and it is about the coolest car you'll ever see. Understated classic that has been well cared for.

Good luck Jason,

oh my..such a cool car...and in Verona! I LOVE Verona!

I call it 'Write me up Red"

Just once I'd like to see a BAT driving video with a little aggression.

It's usually just pussyfootin' around town short shifting

*love the cold air intake

I'm going to try to put a short video together that shows a bit more "brisk" driving this weekend.

Hey Jason,

Barney, Ed, Mike and Terry are talking about a “social distancing” drive Saturday mid-morning like we did last weekend.

Very desirable car! Best of all, it’s un-restored. Re-painted? Yes, probably years ago, before ‘02’s warranted $20K re-paints. I’d bet a good upholsterer could install a patch on the driver’s seat, from the underside, hand-color it to more-or-less match, and give you another 10 years — at 2,500 miles per year — to enjoy this car just exactly as it is!

No mention if the engine is original, but this car has so much else going for it that I’m not sure I’d care if it retains the original block!

Lose the Alpina hood sticker and dash emblem: this car doesn’t need them... ?

Regards,

Steve

What a fantastic car and a rare piece of 2002 history. As most of you probably know, Hardy & Beck were the West Coast Alpina importer back in the day and this car is one of those “open checkbook” Alpina/H&B tiis of which very few exist. Even though it was continually developed to these specs by H&B over decades (as opposed to all being done when the car was new), it’s still super sweet, rare and desirable. Whoever gets this car will be one, lucky guy or gal, it is a legitimate 170 HP tii with a perfect balance among all mechanical  systems.

I had the lucky opportunity to extensively drive another, “open checkbook Alpina/H&B” 1973 tii in the early 2000s, still belonging to a friend and former client. This car is arguably even more desirable, because the “Full Monty” Alpina spec was all performed when the car was brand, spanking new.  It was extremely quick, handled beautifully without being harsh and was generally just pure 2002 tii nirvana turned up to another level.  Like the Verona car on BaT, this car is literally outfitted with EVERYTHING in the Alpina catalog, from engine internals, to A4S, to special Alpina-calibrated pump, to suspension, transmission, brakes, differential, headers, exhaust, you name it. The original owner of the car (who I also know and who told me about it’s origins in great detail) pretty much brought the car directly from the showroom to H&B and said “the works, please!” The results were predictably awesome.

Good luck to Jason, and to the eventual buyer. I’d very much love to own this car myself.

It's great car we can all agree, and I'm sure we'd all love to own/drive it.

But its a bit of a frankenstein, in a good way. It's really not a tii any more

Respectfully, I couldn’t disagree more. All about the Kugelfischer! ?

+1

I agree! If one of those A4 setups landed in my lap, it would go on my tii tout de suite and I’d offer zero apologies for its “non-stock” appearance! ?

And we all know that I like stock appearances! ?

Best regards,

Steve
