That’s an interesting idea, like to see that when it’s all back together.

It’s getting there. Have to make an O’Reilly’s run before I can button it up.

I’ll try to source black flare nuts later to finish the look, but not bad as is.

Sourced a 74tii intake to swap into my 72tii.
Don’t judge lol.
Cleaned them up and painted the runners so it would appear period correct. Waiting on new gaskets.

Got it started and runs pretty well. Swapping to

the later intake eliminated the vacuum leaks I was chasing. Still not perfect but I’ll take it.
I messed something up on reinstalling some of the throttle linkages so more to do though.

also installed my new to me rear seat.

Don’t know whether to save the old seats. The metal structure behind is in better shape, no rust, than the ones I installed, with surface rust. Do these beat up seats have any value? 1972 2002tii

Don’t let the fear of what could happen

make nothing happen…

Couldn’t figure out how to post the video in my last post here. I blame sleep deprivation lol.

Got the 74 intakes on my 72 tii and no more vacuum leaks!
First time it’s run well, save a moment a few weeks ago, since I bought it last October.

I will still go through and replace the ignition parts, wires, distributor cap/rotor/condenser, plugs, as it seems to have a misfire, more apparent at the exhaust tip.

I’m very happy though!
looks like I reinstalled the throttle linkage incorrectly so need to fix that-idles high and throttle binds up.

Your 002 distributor uses the same cap(/rotor/condenser) as a '75-'76 '02, not (all) the same as your '72.  (just a heads up)

Tom

Thanks for that.
So my 72 uses the same as 75-76, but not 73-74?
I was just going to search for 72 replacement parts. Are 75-76 parts easier to come by?

The 002 distributor that you have is not original.  The 0231151008 that came on the car originally was the early-style, with a cap that fits over a tab on the distributor body.  The late-style ('75-'75) distributor caps are like the one on your 002 distributor, with a notch in the body and a bump on the underside of the cap.  There are two styles of condensers and you want the late-style for your 002, not one for a '72.  The difference is the shape of the hole in the side of the body.  Early = round and late = square.  I think the points are the same in your '72tii and a '76, as well as the 002.   Those parts are all easy to come by.

Feel free to send a PM if this is still confusing.

Oh gotcha. That's right, different distributor. Thanks for reminding me. I would have totally bought the wrong parts. Appreciate it!
