Full steam ahead on repairs to the ‘73. Another WN order should be here on Fri. It’s still in a tent in the backyard for now. I’m thinking that I’ll wait to finish up a few more repairs before I move it back to the garage.6285EFCE-AA54-41E1-9539-D6773148F5FC.thumb.jpeg.14830ffc90b9977bfa9ebb636840d92e.jpegD7F91F81-0608-4FB5-A1DB-79883CE9D681.thumb.jpeg.70e9211c72b53591a317203aa5644a11.jpeg

Happy 4th all!! ????????

Installed new SeatBeltsPlus units and happy to see bolt sizes fit perfectly. I might drive into a tree tonight doing 60 to do some quality control verification... ahh just kidding ?

Also painted my trunk box I showed a few posts back.

And finally re-aligned my Nardi since it was upside down in my haste this spring putting things together

And I will drive it soon when the mercury drops to less than 95! Bloody 97 degrees in Raleigh... next purchase.. Hack Mechanic guide to vintage A/C ❄️☃️❄️☃️

‘73 - right inner rocker repair done.

Started to fab the right A-pillar repair panel. 16ga is a mother to form.

Once the A-pillar is done I’ll put a repaired outer rocker on, then reinstall the right quarter panel. Then I’ll start in on the floor repairs.

‘68 drank a few beers while staring at the right side of the car... pondering mounting a new outer rocker before or after removing the engine/trans and building a stand.

Happy 4th everyone!

Hot as f**k here today, so I'm just futzing in the garage, cleaning and inspecting, until old Sol recedes some, then I'm the grillmaster...

Here's a patriotic pic to celebrate Independence Day :D

Happy 02ing,

Tom

rebuilt carb?

Not yet. Finally received the last of the parts last week. Waiting for my friend’s work schedule to clear up for him to help me. It’s been ok for around town. Spent some time the last couple days tuning it. Hopefully in the next few days we can tackle it. Have all the parts for fuel pump, water pump, thermostat, adjust valves and replace points. After that tie-rods, bushings, rear brakes, brake lines and pedal box rebuild.

Bought a weathered '70 El Camino to transport my broken turbo 2002 engine/trans around to machine shop/s. Hammering out a deal on a dolly to use with it for when it breaks down. $200+ tows are getting old.

I wish my '71 Monte was that weathered. Mine is more like hammered cat poo. Mind you this pic is before I discovered that it was a breeding ground for rust at every corner. So I cut it up and bought a different shell. That's my project after the Tii is back on the road.IMG_20150623_201732781.thumb.jpg.1050513f356bea68dd775ee712db2945.jpg

I managed to just about

finish the A sheet repairs. I shorted the leading edge of the patch by about an inch so I’ll make

up a smaller patch to finish the corner and smooth it all out. I left the lower edge loose so that I can massage the fit to the outer rocker before I burn it in finally. It doesn’t photograph well, but there was a “pad” molded into the original sheet. I believe it was a “backer” for the jack pad. I did recreated that pad as well. I’ll wrap this up this weekend... I think. I’m hoping to get the rocker and quarter panel nailed back down this weekend as well. 1FDDC609-2D1B-4DA8-A560-0F00CAD31367.thumb.jpeg.5c1e8aaae7acdf0ebf9ebcd4a0bf9b38.jpeg

Put fluids in transmission and differential. (Car has been sitting in reassembly mode for a couple years.)

Pulled radiator & fan to hand turn the engine a couple times through. Just because ...

Reinstalled radiator & fan.

Installed TEP strut brace.

Discovered the secret of the rear interior side panels. The mysterious clips hold the chrome trim to the side panel AND the side panel to the pinch weld!!! Hooboy. Figgered that one out all by my lonesome. lol

Glued and trimmed carpet from Esty to the rear package tray so that it matches the carpet in the car. I'm not sure 2002s were finished that way, but later bimmers were (like my e30s and e36), so I ran with it.

This car could conceivably be running within a few weeks. YAY!!!

Dude, you are making awesome progress. You definitely have some talent with sheet metal. Nice work.

Actually, what I did yesterday:  Added More Miles !!

---   605 North to 210 West to 2 North to 210 West to 118 West to Rocky Peak Road and west downhill into Simi Valley ...... no traffic, and I would never admit to exceeding the speed limit .......

In a couple of weeks the SoCal Vintage drivers will also exit at Rocky Peak, and head west downhill for about 1 mile, thus enjoying these exact scenic views ......
