Thoughts on these e21 Recaros

"Damn, they feel good!" beats "Well, they're kinda shiny, they smell too fresh, and ain't really period..." any day.  I think they quite nicely compliment and groove with your car's interior.  Take the car on a 1,000-mile trip; at the end, you'll likely not have any second thoughts.

A concours judge once told me, "Once you change anything in/or/about a car...it ain't original anymore."  Therefore, virtually all of our cars are not original.

You know what they're missing?

Buttprints from a couple good weekends of driving.

They'll scuff in nicely.

And put me in line after Scoob if they don't grow on you.

Looks great. I have a pair that need to be re-done. I am considering trading them for some work. I have a set of the originals that were recovered and rebuilt, that are taking up space. Not sure what to do.  I am kinda hooped because I have the same fjord blue, but a tan interior. It is my understanding that that colour never came with a tan interior.

You can't go wrong with E21 Recaros in an '02.  I have two '02's with them and wouldn't trade them for anything!  Nice job upholstering too.  Only thing I noticed is the extension leg support is not like original covering....it should be solid not perforated....at least that's what I remember.  Love the Momo steering wheel...exactly like the one I lost in our house fire in '08 that was off my '73tii (should have kept it on the car...I put an original '02 Euro "bus" wheel on there)...I really miss that wheel!

I think they look awesome. I like the inner with different material than the bolsters/seat back edges going for the match in the rear. I'm biased as I have same seats in tan in my car. It took me a while to get used to them at first too!

Certainly, late in the '02 production run -- I'm guessing it was 1975 and 1976 -- I saw Fjord cars, occasionally, with factory tan interiors.  But navy blue was the norm.

You don't mention what year your car is.

I am confused.  Original vinyl was basketweave but your front seats look like "perforated" vinyl.  Can't tell whether or not your rear seats match the front, but I have no problems with perforated--as long as they both matched.  And the leg extensions should indeed match the center sections (not smooth).

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
