Aluminum Door Sill Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi Steve, just curious, but does the catalogue show a Petri steering wheel as an option as well. My car has some upgrades that are not common on many of similar models I have come across.Mike

Mike,

There are no steering wheels whatsoever in the ca. 1972 BMW accessories brochure. And everything in the brochure is BMW-branded, with BMW part numbers.

I've seen a couple of earlier '02-era accessory brochures (Tom Jones has a large early ['67?] example), and both were larger than this one -- I bookmarked one but the link no longer gets you to an operating Website. Nonetheless, it seemed that some dealerships had non-BMW retail operations in addition to the BMW parts network. Radios and stereos, e.g., Blaupunkt and Becker, come to mind. But perhaps the presence of aftermarket goods was precluded where BMW offered competing goods.

Regards,

Steve

Interesting topic.  I am in the middle of gluing my carpet in the 69 and cleaning up the (2) gray colored sill pieces.  For a comparison, I looked at my tii and they were completely different.  When did BMW change this design?

The 69 has sill covers that point toward the inside of the car

The 73 has black plastic covers that point toward the outside of the car and have one additional cover that snaps over the door edge.

I thought I'd seen the black entrance step moulding before. Jim's picture confirms my memory. That adds a mystery. Did the 74+ cars have black plastic?

I would like to find a set for my 69. They prevent scuffing of the rockers.

If you are not necessarily desiring bright metal, buy some stone guard clear bra material from xpel technologies.  It's is available in strip and in various widths.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

That would be too easy- like putting it on a late model Bimmer.

jim- seriously that is a great idea.  Thank you.

Nice!

Saw that Craigslist post.  Were there a lot of buyers?  I was just in Edmonds on Wednesday.  It's a bit of a drive twice in one week.

You are welcome.  I used some pieces left over from when I covered the front of the 02.
