2002 Tisa

BMW did only make 1800 Ti/SA cars. I'd be very interested in the VIN of the engine, the story of how it ended up in a 1600-2, and the story of what ever happened to the Ti/SA that gave up its engine.

Well, they used some 1800 ti/SA parts in a few 2000 Ti race cars but that's another story... For another time.

Oh yeah, that 1600-2 has the best of both worlds for me; an early 1600 with an apparent real Ti/SA engine. :)

+1

The absence of air filter housing brackets on the driver-side inner fender, and the presence of the snorkel, say "1600-2" rather than 1600ti (and certainly not "factory Ti/SA"). As Tom says, it's a simple engine transplant.

That would be a fun ride with the TISA engine.  It's in an early 1600 likely Manila color, note the embossed hood trim 66-early68.  The aftermarket oil filler cap is hideous. :)  Tom is probably just eyeing that ISA motor to swap into his TISA and avoid all that pesky rebuild work LOL.

It may not be a TISA becuase that doesn't exist at least not on an 02" but that's one sweet car.

Old destroyed Tisa s were often cannibalized, I have seen original steering wheels, seats and motors in 02 cars over the years. The head with 300 degree cam and bigger valves is a nice performance upgrade. My head and intake manifolds were stolen by crackheads for the scrap value. If anyone has a good head and intake manifolds I'd be interested in purchase at a fair price. 1800 cc tisa motors are a little roachy on torque and power. That head and 45 webers on a good 10.1 comp 2 liter motor with 1602 4.22 rear diff would be thrilling up to about 105 mph.   Peter

Is that car in the newish Jeremy Walton book?  I think the owner is in Colorado Springs.  May have that garbled.

Scott

Correct!!

This car is owned by R Meinig in CO Springs. He bought the 1600 with the intent of a restoration, and happened to have an 1800TI/SA (i think?). About 2 years ago, he had the engine swapped into the 1600 to make a lighter, smaller "FrakenTISA"

I haven't ridden in it, but it was well done. Ben, all of this was documented on the framed display in front of the car. Pretty crazy they only made ~200 of those engines!

Thanks for filling us in on the story behind this! Now it makes sense.

Still, I'd love to see that motor find its way back, eventually, to an 1800 tiSA, or even an 1800 ti!

Regards,

Steve
