  1. Matching numbers means....The part that you buy...Should match the part that you replace.... ira
  2. Honestly...This is the perfect time for a do it yourself project. Get yourself a dead head hammer, take your time, and hit it a few times. The damage appears to be a nice even shape....Also you could get a jack and a 4x4 piece of wood (or something) expand the jack while carefully pushing your dent back into shape...Then hit it with a dead head hammer or a shaping hammer or both...fun stuff.. You have nothing to lose and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.. That's what I would do.. ira
  3. " " Essential Items To Update On 2002" .....In my opinion...Nothing..It's a stand alone car... A good nice to have is a weber carb whether 32/36 sync linked (personal hands on preference) or 38/38 which both bode well on a 2002....I like the weber because it's easy to replace and there are plenty of parts... ira
  4. Yep... I agree..It may not be a "flat spot" but whatever you call it it does occur when I keep my foot on the gas flat out. However I get better results if I step on the gas gradually, and harder as I go. This is with both 32/36 (sync link installed) and 38/38. Is it a problem, not for me.. ira
  5. This is just how I'm wired. So, bear with me. I would "try" the 250 (straight swap) without any adjustments..Just to satisfy my curiosity ..Cause in my mind (I'm sure I'm not alone) I will always think what if. The good thing is that it's easy to screw in and take out if it does not work out.. Anyway, good luck. Hopefully the rebuild kit, solves the carb issue.. ira
  6. If I've deciphered your last post correctly. I videoed my car using my cell phone..Very easy to do..Extremely helpful, in my opinion. Good luck with your purchase. ira
  7. This what I did when I sold my 02'....also on my 1967 Datsun 1600 roadster.. I made short video with me acting as the narrator. It started off with me doing a walk around showing the areas common for rust. The interior. The dash. The engine compartment. The tires and etc, etc. Then I started the car while videoing.... My goal was to give the buyer a pretty good understanding of the good, bad and ugly of the car..... It's a fair request. Then after viewing the videos It seems that you would have a better idea if you want to put "boots on the ground"... The above is what I sent perspective buyers... ira
  8. On the bright side...BMW 2002's are in less reported accidents than let's say Honda, Toyota, Ford or any other common manufacturer. I say absolutely the 02 is a daily driver. And I say absolutely things are gonna break, machines break. My 335i has broken..It's a machine. The good thing about the 02 breaking is most likely you can fix it yourself, and there's a good chance that that same part won't break for at least two weeks (smile).. I never worry about getting hit by another car..why? be scared of something that might happen, maybe, if ever....Accidents happen. Yep there are no modern crush zones but from what I hear about the speed s on the autobahn...I guess this car held it's own during a collision..Getting hit by another vehicle is a jolting experience crumple zone do help, but whatever.... My car goes 50, 60, 70, 80,90 mph just like the modern cars...If it breaks, it breaks..I'll fix it or I'll pay to have it fixed if it's beyond my skill level... I say make a deal with yourself only drive the 02" on days that end with "y"... ira
  9. Copy...... Sounds like son is super responsible, and his parents are not that bad either =)
  10. A son receives a1974bmw tii from his father is wonderful..A son and his father spend to hours driving said tii back and forth from bay area to Grass Valley together, priceless.......=)
  11. I like the idea. I the same thing on my 335i. I also thought it was an antenna...shucks if this thing makes my 02' run anywhere near the way my 335 runs, it's worth a shot////\ ira
  12. unfortunately it sound like a bearing..... unfortunately as much as wanted my to be a loose exhaust, loose valve, low oil....or anything else that i could have come up with it turned out to be a bearing, little stupid bearing, it seems the oil journal was clogged....it happened on a fun sunny day for no reason.. hopefully not, but that's my take ira
  13. Hi Superfly Just a compliment to you. From your very first e-mail you've been extremely descriptive and upfront. Also, through the replies good and not too good you've remained humble and open. Anyway, that's good way to learn and it makes folks feel free to impart knowledge for you, me and who ever needs it... Anyway, good on you. I think through this experience WE probably won't be having this expensive conversation again.. Also, I ran into a similar problem, however, I did not have as much drive as you. I re-torqued the head which turned out to be not to full specs and luckily for me. The temps went waaay back to normal... I can really thank my lazy tendencies and taking the easy way out for that...finally being lazy has paid dividends... Also, KBMB02 I really like that copper spray coating idea. It makes sense to me... Well all, have fun, be safe ira
  14. He concluded his post with: "Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong spot" Guess being human has some flaws... ira
  15. So if my math is correct. You're asking $500.00 for everything..If so..I'll buy it.. 510-258-5514 or gandersn@pacbell.net ira I'm located in the Bay Area I'll be on vacation starting 6Feb14 til 14or15 Feb14...anyway I can pick it up
  16. Hi there My car currently has the same problem...And I've heard about the drilling thing..It's probably a better and more permanent fix... However, in the mean time here's what I do..Relax. No really relax..Because I'm sure you've found in the several turns and tuggs that this condition does not respond to strength..Yep, my fingers have been plenty sore.. What I do is put the key in the ignition. Turn the wheel as far to the right or left as possible depending on which direction it's locked in. I then hold the wheel in that position with my knees. I then "gently" turn the key while at the same time searching for the sweet spot with the key "it's there"... So this means turn the key alittle at a time you may have to even back the key out ever so slightly while finding this spot. So, patience is the thing it will wok it's just finding the spot. This is my tried and true method through the car being hot from the sun and I'm sweating to death. To cold dark all of my friends are gone and I'm just there thinking "damn I make waaay to much money to be f'kg with this thing".. The pay off is once you find the sweet spot it it stays the same in my experience... Again do this when you have time..Just relax. Your fingers will love you for it... Again, my car has been in this sane condition for over 1 year, it starts every-time without a bunch of effort. good luck ira
  17. Beautiful car..Well sorted. I actually saw it in person..I'm sure the new owner would be proud to own it.. ira
  18. Bro, you started this frenzy......with the good folks of FAQ trying to solve your dilemma, at a minimum we/I respectfully deserve the results..... Again just out of excitement I'm wondering if it was carbs or points or....... ira
  19. maybe check the gap on your points.. maybe retard your timing a small bit at a time by turning the dizzy clock-wise...small bits at a time....see if either or both gives a better result ira
  20. Thanks for the reply Carl.. I said the above with the utmost respect. It sounds as if you have waaay more knowledge then I have. And I enjoyed your contribution. I was just astonished at the difference between a sync-linked 32/36 and sans sync-link. But, again your information above is very valid and I did not intend to take away from the information in anyway shape or form. See you on the road ira
  21. Carl said... Hi Carl you're explanation was wonderful until you said the above. I'm hoping that you're speaking from your practical hands on experience , respectfully. I have a sync-linked 32/36 and before I synch-linked the carb I was happy with the overall performance. However, when I installed the sync-link WOW. The throttle response is night and day. I got up the road way faster. The car just came alive. So it seems that if you need less pedal input to get more throttle, then in this condition the more pedal input the faster you go. Which is the case currently with my sync-linked '70...fun.. Also, fortunately I have a 1971 with a 38/38 it's a joy to drive HOWEVER I don't the 38/38 that I would hands down replace the sync-linked 32/36 both are a joy and both deliver the ultimate driving experience. Now gas mileage may suffer HOWEVER this type of thrill is in my budget.. Anyway, two cents ira
  22. Hi there maybe you can try turning the fuel down a little bit at a time. clockwise=leaner...counter clockwise=richer....
  23. Nice look.. What's inside the ammo box and how's it mounted....My thought is a tool box maybe.. ira
  24. Nesset said: I'm pretty pissed but I'm not going to beat the shit out of anyone lol. I'm more or the less a person that says screw violence. Gets you nothing but a life Long grudge and trouble. @Nesset Young man you're wise beyond your years... ira
